So now the Diamondbacks will add throwing more at opposing hitters, grit on top of grit. Towers cited an incident when MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt got hit and nobody retaliated. OK. You know how many pitches Goldschmidt got hit by in 2013? Three. It's not like opposing pitchers were having target practice at him all season.

But whatever. Easier to blame the pitching coach rather than blame the fact that maybe the team just wasn't good enough.

Nice.

Do you ever? :)

Sure... I think Towers has a ton riding on next season. Yes, I've been willing to cut him some slack this year, however, that all ends in 2014.
I think any GM worth his weight in salt will always create ample opportunity for people to play Monday Morning QB and second guess moves...
I applauded Towers for having the cajones to make moves many other GM's, even though they would've wanted to, wouldn't make because they were too afraid of the backlash. Upton and Bauer come to mind here...

Anyway, 2014 is the year that Towers has to produce. Should be an interesting offseason...

Yes, most GM's would not have tried that garbage trade of Upton to Seattle. :)

This is very first paragraph from Schoenfield:

According to Towers, the Diamondbacks weren't a disappointment because their outfielders hit the fewest home runs in the majors or the rotation ranked 25th in the majors in strikeout rate or Ian Kennedy was terrible and Miguel Montero had a bad year, but because their pitchers didn't hit enough opposing batters.

Seriously? Where or how, in KT's interview did he even come close to insinuating such crap?
Love how Schoenfield just completely disregards all that KT said when speaking to the ACTUAL reasons why Nagy was fired... ya know, things like " This is a Performance Oriented League", and "We ranked in the bottom half of the league in Pitching", and "We need a new attitude where pitchers are more willing to pitch inside"...

Pfffttt.... just another ridiculously biased piece of trash commentary...

"I don't anticipate any big changes," Towers said. "I don't see wholesale changes. I like this group of players that we have here."

The package put together by the Mariners for Upton was portrayed as "substantial," believed to include shortstop Nick Franklin as well as one pitcher from the "Big Three" triumvirate of Taijuan Walker, Danny Hultzen and James Paxton. CBSSports.com reported that Walker was the pitcher who would have gone to Arizona in the deal.
And that likely wasn't all. According to CBSSports.com, the Mariners were also prepared to send relievers Charlie Furbush and Stephen Pryor in the deal.

How many major leaguers in that deal? Walker and two middle relievers? Totally garbage and worse than the Prado deal.

Don't need "wholesale changes"... IMHO. I would be surprised if he doesn't find a way to grab a homerun hitting outfielder...
And I would guess the pen and starting pitching will be touched as well...
However, in terms of the starting line-up, I really don't see "wholesale" changes as being needed.

Line-up
Eaton - CF (I would keep him on a very short leash)
Parra - RF
Goldy - 1B
Hill - 2B (or a new power bat in LF)
Prado - 3B
Ross/Davidson/Bloomquist (or new LF)
Montero - C
Gregorious/Owings - SS

Starters
Corbin
Miley
Delgado
Cahill
McCarthy
Skaggs
Bradley (could still need another year in the minors)
(Hopefully another new addition to take Cahill and/or McCarthy's slot)

Pen
Hernandez
Ziegler
Putz
Collmenter
Bell
Harris
Thatcher
Holmberg/DeLaRosa/Spruill
Stites

A few adjustments here and there... but definitely not "Wholesale" changes for sure!

Right at this moment? Yes, it would be less impactful than the Prado deal. For all we know, the Prado deal wasn't available when the Seattle deal was done...
But who knows 2, 3 or 4 years from now. The Seattle deal included a bunch of young talent. Need much more time to evaluate their worth...

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9...er-says-pitchers-need-adopt-eye-eye-mentality

Towers vowed that if any pitcher doesn't comply with that edict, he will look to move that pitcher off the team.

"Some of them, contractually, it's tough to move," Towers told the radio station.
Unbelievable. Towers is an imbecile. I know fans use adjectives frequently to denounce the intelligence of management, but Towers really is a freaking moron. What kind of idiot just constantly makes these statements? "Hey baseball world, I am thinking about trading some guys. FYI, I think they suck and are over paid trash, thats where I would like to begin the negotiating process... any takers?".

Also, KT... who gave out those rubbish contracts? If you're looking at "tough to move" pitchers then the only big money on the roster is garbage that you hauled in.

Agree and to think there are people on this board who defend him and think he is doing a good job. How many GM's wold go public and say they are not trying to trade a player and then try and trade him to a team that he has a no-trade clause in his contract to?

Parker makes half a million and is not eligible for arbitration until 2015. Towers also threw in Cook and the guy turns into an all-star pitcher. :bang:

Yeah, I saw that about Towers wanting an outfielder and brazenly throwing out exactly who he would like to give up. When Tower plays poker I imagine he lays his hand out for everyone to see than asks if anyone wants to call his bet.

Towers contradicts himself again...

http://arizonasports.com/42/1705723/Dbacks-GM-Kevin-Towers-Players-should-handle-onfield-business
Is there unfinished business between the two teams? More to the point, will the bad blood between the two franchises linger into a new season, and should the D-backs be the ones to plunk an opposing hitter, like Yasiel Puig, for instance?
"I don't think the front office should be ordering players to plunk other players," Towers told Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. "I think baseball players are smart, they're aware of situations.
"To me, if business is warranted on the field, let the players take care of it."
This guy is a damn idiot.

This coming after he said that guys needed to bean more players or he'd run them out of town.

THAT is my problem. The guy is an idiot who contradicts himself repeatedly.
