So, now that Melodrama is finally over and with the trade deadline fast approaching, will we see any more major moves? More pertinently, will the Suns make any moves? So far the Suns have not been linked to any trade rumors outside of message boards. But even if the Suns don't make any more trades this season, which seems likely at this point, it will be interesting to see who was available, what would it have cost the Suns to get them, and whether they made the right decision not to pursue those players.

We are still in need of a starter-caliber power forward, and although recent play of Gortat and Frye has diminished that need somewhat, neither player can be counted on to carry our offense when Nash goes to the bench. And while Gortat, Lopez and Warrick have all been decent pick and roll partners for Nash at times, they haven't been consistent, especially in late-game situations. It won't be possible to replace Amare, but someone a little more reliable and effective than Warrick probably could be had.

So who's available?

There's talk that Nene might be moved, although Denver keeps insisting that they intend to re-sign him. I don't see why they would, and more likely they are just waiting for the right deal to come along. They just acquired Koufos from the Wolves perhaps as a replacement should Nene be dealt.

Another player who will likely be traded soon is Carl Landry, perhaps to New Orleans. I can't imagine it would take a lot to get him.

Troy Murphy is also rumored to be heading to Golden State.

JJ Hickson may be available.

What do the Suns have to offer?

Vince Carter has a $4M buyout effectively making him a $17M expiring contract. He will almost certainly be gone in a few months anyway. The Suns have an abundance of wings, although Childress is probably untradeable at this point. Robin Lopez may be someone the Suns could part with given the emergence of Gortat. Warrick could be dealt as well. And there's two first round picks in this year's draft to play with, and a portion of Amare's trade exception still remains.

I wish the Suns could get a player like Laundry or Hickson with the Orlando pick.

As for assets we have: Lopez, Dragic, Vince Carter, possibly Pietrus (kinda iffy due to player option), and 2 1st round picks

If we trade Carter, we're likely going to have to take a bad contract in return to make salaries match

Another possibility is picking up a player who is bought out. Latest rumors have Troy Murphy going to Golden State who would then buy him out. If he is bought out, would the Suns express interest in signing him? There would of course be other teams making offers, so more likely he'd sign with someone else, probably Orlando.

Let's get JJ Hickson. He has such potential that Cavs refused to trade him for Amare last year! ;)

Don't know if anybody posted this or not, if so my apologies. Couldn't get the link to work but it's from sb nation arizona.

But the Suns aren't worried about all that, they are focused on themselves.
"I don't think we need to worry about anybody else," Nash said. "We need to worry about ourselves and find a way to win a bunch of these 28 games."
How many of those 28 games do the Suns need to win?
Nash says, "I have no idea but I would guess it's going to take a lot."
While Vince Carter thinks it will take all of them...or perhaps less, "I don't say, 'let's go whatever and whatever'. No, let's go 28-0. Anything less than that and it's alright."
Coach Gentry won't put a number on it either but he's pretty realistic about what it's going to take, "We know we have an up hill battle as far as making the playoffs...We don't have any margin of error right now, we really don't."
I think the Suns need to get to 45 wins which would mean an 18-10 finish to the season. It's possible, but like Gentry said, there's no margin of error. That means no more dropping games to the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings of the league.
"No games off," as Vince Carter said. He also said he was grateful for the time off over the All-Star break and wishes it was a couple more days.
The Suns are back in action on Wednesday at home against the Atlanta Hawks (how are rumored to be busy in the trade market) before heading off on a six-game roadie. Fun times ahead.

18-10 is exactly what I was thinking this afternoon.

And 16 of the last 28 are on the road...

18 and 10? Hah! That will not net you a playoff seed in the Western Conference.. I'm saying we'll need at least 21 wins for 6-7th seed safely and be recognized.. 18-10 will probably have to be a tie breaker.

Also, whats with VC saying we need this and this and we need to do this and play good but when the time comes he just doesn't perform.. What gives man? Stop talking and let your actions on the court speak for you!

The Suns aren't going to do anything. They'll treat VC just as what he is--an expiring contract. That in turn will open up time for Josh Childress and perhaps our own first round pick. The ORL pick will probably be a 13th man to start with Lawal.

How are the Hornets able to send cash for a player (Thorton for landry) when they are owned by the league? Shouldn't this be some sort of violation?

Apparently with this trade, the Hornets will be paying $2 million MORE than they were with Thornton. And this is after the NBA had to buy the team because they were so far in debt. Mark Cuban is going crazy about it.

Probably and I think the best thing to do to help this team now is something simple: SEND VINCE CARTER HOME!! He doesn't really bring anything to the table offensively or defensively and I'd rather have Childress getting playing time.

We actually can be at a point of strength this offseason if we want to be as we can still trade VC for players after the season is over (before his buyout and the likely lengthy lockout of course) and give teams instant cap savings. Those who are in favor of trading Nash, he likely goes up in value as he's still a good player and is also an expiring contract so he'd be good for a team making a 1 year push (ie Orlando). I don't think we trade Nash in the offseason but it does become a more attractive option for other teams then.

Also, a trade has been agreed upon: LA Clippers send Baron Davis to Cleveland for Mo Williams.

That sound you hear is the crash of Baron Davis' career finally coming to an end.

is that right? Tomorrow might really seem like a letdown because I can't imagine there will be anywhere near as much movement tomorrow as there has been in the last two days. This has been one of the most active trade deadlines I can remember.

The pending lockout probably has a lot to do with it.

Jermaine O'Neal for Josh Childress rumor. At ESPN's Boston page, there was also a link that mentioned Nate Robinson and injured Marquis Daniels for Josh Childress - under Peter May's players to keep an eye on.

I like Nate Robinson... O'Neal has 2 years left on contract.

Well, if that's the case, it's a no-brainer. Not because O'Neal is necessarily a 'get', but it's a super low-risk, potentially high-reward proposition.

Nash-VC-Hill-O'Neal-Gortat(eventually, I hope)

Old, but if the training staff can do something with big-headed, glass-ankled O'Neal, we might have something to work with....

Meh....

I'd rather see a VC/RoLo to OKC for Ibaka/Collison, or something like that, but I'm sure OKC would laugh. Give them both firsts for all I care, but Ibaka with Nash (plus Gortat) works....
