So, now that Melodrama is finally over and with the trade deadline fast approaching, will we see any more major moves? More pertinently, will the Suns make any moves? So far the Suns have not been linked to any trade rumors outside of message boards. But even if the Suns don't make any more trades this season, which seems likely at this point, it will be interesting to see who was available, what would it have cost the Suns to get them, and whether they made the right decision not to pursue those players.
We are still in need of a starter-caliber power forward, and although recent play of Gortat and Frye has diminished that need somewhat, neither player can be counted on to carry our offense when Nash goes to the bench. And while Gortat, Lopez and Warrick have all been decent pick and roll partners for Nash at times, they haven't been consistent, especially in late-game situations. It won't be possible to replace Amare, but someone a little more reliable and effective than Warrick probably could be had.
So who's available?
There's talk that Nene might be moved, although Denver keeps insisting that they intend to re-sign him. I don't see why they would, and more likely they are just waiting for the right deal to come along. They just acquired Koufos from the Wolves perhaps as a replacement should Nene be dealt.
Another player who will likely be traded soon is Carl Landry, perhaps to New Orleans. I can't imagine it would take a lot to get him.
Troy Murphy is also rumored to be heading to Golden State.
JJ Hickson may be available.
What do the Suns have to offer?
Vince Carter has a $4M buyout effectively making him a $17M expiring contract. He will almost certainly be gone in a few months anyway. The Suns have an abundance of wings, although Childress is probably untradeable at this point. Robin Lopez may be someone the Suns could part with given the emergence of Gortat. Warrick could be dealt as well. And there's two first round picks in this year's draft to play with, and a portion of Amare's trade exception still remains.
