I heard some talk this morning on the radio about the Cardinals trading down.
Does anyone see this as a good thing? Or will we see another disaster like passing on Suggs.

Wasnt it Suggs AND HEAP?

Eh, it is Suggs. The Cards were clearly interested in Suggs, and he went on to become the DROY.

What a nightmare that was. I was at work and missed the Draft totally. I was sleeping due to a grave yard shift and my buddy came over and asked what I thought about the draft. He seemed excited and hopeful. The first thing I asked was did they get Suggs? He said "well... no but they traded down and then" I interupted him and told him it didnt matter anymore what I thought.
They blew it. He followed up with "Well they got this Wide reciever in the second round that might be good."

So it wasn't that bad after all. :)

Being in Florida at the time, I had seen a lot of Boldin at FSU. I knew he would be a stud.

I have said it before and I will proudly say it again. Suggs would have been a HUGE bust for the Cardinals.

Why is it so difficult for you guys to grasp that he went to the best defense in the league. The Raven defense at the time was IMO one of the top 20 ever assembled. He wasn't an every down player, not even a two down guy. The man could do nothing to stop the run and was very poor at shedding blocks. He came in to rush the qb in third and long situations. The Cards D at the time would have never in a million years been able to put him in the favorable positions that Ray Lewis and Co. did.

Furthermore, if he was so damn good, why doesn't he start? Being as though I live in the B'more area I can personally tell you that he is not looked upon as anything special here.

I will be at the Raven-Cards game in Baltimore this year. Anyone who is interested in coming contact me and I can surely obtain tickets for you. When you get to the game I would like you to tell me how many Suggs jerseys are in the stands.

According to Jude LaCava today, Dave McGinnis wanted to draft Suggs (despite veiled intimations from some on this board), and was told no. He said that George Boone had Suggs rated no better than the third round.

Good times.

Ouch! He averages 10 sacks for his career and his tackles are consistant.
He had more pass deflections last year than the previous 3 years combined.
The Cardinals DONT need that?

EDIT-----

He isnt a superstar, but he would have contributed more that Pace has thats for sure.

Suggs, was not a 4-3 end... so, I can hardly see the brilliance.

He now plays LB in a 3-4 system.

Nah, after they made the trade, I wanted them to draft either Larry Johnson and Dallas Clark.

Imagining Larry Johnson, Dallas Clark, Q, and Hayes would have been tremendous.

Dude now youre talking. What a wonderful world it would be.

You all know this is a topic that Cardinal fans all over bring up from time to time. It has to be done and we gotta have hope.

ACtually, 80% of the time or so he plays DE in a 4-3 system with Pryce and Ngata at the DTs. They play a lot of hybrid fronts in B-more; it's not like they're a team like the Steelers or Chargers that are dogmatic about scheme.

Trade Fitz for someone's 1st rounder (I don't think a 1st rounder is outrageous for a proven Wr like Fitz) then package both 1st rounders to Oakland and trade up to get Johnson...who is Fitz with wheels.

No thank you, I'm not trading away a Pro Bowl reciever who's produced and is young for the same thing and still have no answer at need positions.

4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB aren't that far of a stretch for a decent athlete.

I knew little about the draft that year (college and work). I just remember being mad about the Boldin pick after taking Johnson. That turned out to be backwards!!!!

We will just have to agree to disagree then buddy. I think Pace would be filling the same role that Suggs does now and BJ would be starting over in Baltimore.

There is maybe 2 or 3 guys in this draft who may end up be a better football player than Fitz. I can bet that if his draft were done again he would be the #1 ahead of Eli and Gallery. Fitz is young and has never suffered any major injury. I wouldn't get ridd of him for two first rounders, let alone package him with one just to get another WR. I think Johnson has all the tools to become one of the top wideouts in the game, but no reciever currently in the game is worth Fitz and another 1st rounder IMO.

That's absolutely amazing. Why would anyone in the front office give credence to thay guy's evaluations? The things that you hear come from the Cards FO is just flabbergasting at times. I remember wanting Lefty bad but Suggs wouldn't have pissed me off. Isn't Boone the one that gave us Piasarkiewics, Bell, Duncan, Stouffer,Lee, et al. Him still being around almost assures of another decade or two of Rod Graves because if Boone is still having a say then once you're in with Bill, you're a lifer and ,obviously, RG is in.

I'm speechless, i'm without speech.

When they announced a trade and where we dropped to, I just kept muttering 'show the terms, show the terms'...my friends laughed aloud as I hit the floor on my knees, nearly in tears, shouting 'What!? No! No! Oh God, no!'
