Assume that appropriate minor players would be thrown in, but don't count on any other major talent changing sides.

Also, for the sake of argument, don't count on dumping Banks.

Edit: Oops, I misspelled "Antawn." Dammit, that trips me up every time.

There are only two trades worth discussing IMO: Odom and Cook or Kirilenko and Brewer.

Of the two, I'd prefer AK and Brewer, even though it would punch Alando Tucker's ticket without giving him any opportunity at all...

Kirilenko is best suited to do what that role needs. He's an excellent defender, very athletic, selfless play style, mobile "D'Antoni power forward", shot blocker, steals, versatile. I wish he was a better shooter, ball handler and rebounder, hey-- he's not Kevin Garnett.

Odom is too weak and slow for that spot, and not a good enough shooter to make up for it. His skills would do great on this team, but we need those things less than what Kirilenko brings.

Now that we have Grant Hill, we need a power forward. If we trade Marion for a pure small forward, we're going to be seeing Grant Hill playing 20 minutes a night at power forward. We need a starting quality "4" for this team. To me, that's Odom or Kirilenko-- and Kirilenko would fill the spot better.

Do you really want Suns to go back to a conventional roster of bigs and smalls? The beauty of the Suns was that Marion was power and they played small quick ball.

If you go "big" (although I love depth off the bench in the big man category) then u are throwing away the whole idea of a run-n-gun.

Might as well trade for Adonal Foyle and Malik Allen too.

1. AK47, because Odom is similar to Diaw in skill.
2. Maggette + Salmons
3. Odom.
4. Jefferson

LOL! Um, it's not. I'm not sure what I was thinking of there. Please disregard that option.

You might have been thinking about Maggette and Tim Thomas. That potential trade was mentioned here a while back I think.

I wonder how many times the Suns/Lakers trade machine at Espn and at RealGm has been used today.

Coro reports Sarver and Buss were using the trade machine together over at Starbucks.

To be honest I was thinking of Brad Miller and Salmons, but I rejected that on the grounds that Miller is the biggest weenie in the league -- well, or second biggest, now that Penny Hardaway is back. So somehow Salmons got carried over in my brain while I was looking at the Clippers.

Anyway, let's just forget it. :p

I like Mike Miller but the Suns really have no need for a tall shooting guard who doesn't rebound. AK47 is a mental midget who's constantly injured, and so is Odom, however Odom's production is better. Odom scores better, rebounds better and is a better passer.

Odom and Brian Cook for Marion is the best deal the Suns can probably get. Maybe the Suns could even get a pick out of the Lakers.

For the Suns the ideal trade would be Marion and Banks for Odom, Cook and Maurice Evans, which would give the Suns 2 good big guys, and another 3 point shooter (which we need in my opinion). However I doubt the Lakers would do that deal, its really bad for them.

EDIT:
Marion for Odom, Evans, Cook works salary wise, now obviously the Lakers wouldn't do that. But what about if the Suns also threw in their own first rounder next year? Or would the Atlanta pick be worth it? (I think it tilts things in LAs favor too much). Maybe the Suns own first and second next year?

While the Suns wouldn't be as good as far as star power, they'd be quite deep:

C Amare/Skinner/Cook/Marks
PF Odom/Diaw/Skinner/Cook
SF Hill/Diaw/Odom/Tucker/Evans
SG Bell/LB/Evans/Strawberry/Piatkowski
PG Nash/Banks/LB/Diaw

It would make us instant favorites against San Antonio because for all his faults, Kwame Brown is really strong and a good defender against Duncan.

Plus Kwame is expiring and won't get the same money again, unfortunately the Lakers would never do this I guess.

I meant a D'Antoni big-- as opposed to Corey Maggette. Kirilenko and Odom are D'Antoni bigs.

And putting yourself in a position to win some Championships before the Nash/Stoudemire era expires.

I honestly think the trade for Odom and Cook for Marion is the best option for the suns..

I don't really want AK47 here unless he is accompanied by Brewer (not very likely IMO)....

The deal that I would also like is a Chris Wilcox and a 2007 1st round pick would be intriguing....

It would have to be Wilcox and Szczerbiak, to make the salary numbers work. And Seattle won't do that.

This would be unlikely, but trading Shawn for a combo of Marcus Camby & Edwardo Najera (or some other combo of players from the Nuggets instead of Najera) sounds pretty decent. Najera is on the last year of his contract. I doubt the Nuggets would go for it.

or Marion for Gasol & Hakeem Warrick (actually straight up for Gasol works salary-wise also).

or Marion for Tyson Chandler & Rasual Butler.

My recurring theme is we don't necessarily need to get a SF or SF/PF tweener back in trade, we can take a quality center and move Amare to PF.

How about trying to pull Darius Miles and LaMarcus Aldridge from Portland (throw in that stiff LaFrentz) for Marion and Banks...? I believe this makes us better, and gives Portland a legit Star that holds down the fort until Oden gets better. This year, Shawn and Roy could do well with the cast of Frye, Blake, etc...

I just don't trust Odom's health.

If the Suns do send Marion to Lakers - they should ask for packadge of Odom, Farmar and Bynum or similar. nothing less

I think they would be more likely to ask the Lakers to take on Banks in exchange for not asking for Bynum. The Suns want less salary not the potential for more. Hell the suns might even throw in First round picks to get rid of Banks.

I'm not sure if the Suns have any more first round picks to trade right now. If I recall correctly, NBA teams cannot trade their first round picks in consecutive years or something to that effect.
