Very good point. Instead of obsessing over a #3 starter, maybe the D-Backs should place priority on someone who can hit HRs. After all, isn't that the most exciting play in baseball. The loudest I heard the BOB outside of the playoffs was when Durazo hit the 3 HRs last season. Oh sorry, I forgot you're not allowed to say that name around the Diamondbacks.
Seriously, I have no desire to pay money to watch the brand of baseball that the D-Backs are currently playing. Pitching duels between Schilling and Pedro Martinez are one thing, but duels w/ Brian Lawrence are quite the other. Only Mike Lowell can save this season. Either get him or start to rebuild. I like Schilling, but you can only keep so many 37-plus year old pitchers during a transition period. Better to get that value now, while you still can. If not, Schilling (who wants to win) will become unhappy and forced trades hardly ever help your team. Just ask the Diamondbacks. Or is that jury still deliberating on Dessens.

After reading all of the posts it amazes me that many of you think that winning the davision and going to the world series should almost be a given. I just want to say that the last three years have been the best i have ever had while rooting for a baseball team. Growing up in Boston we knew we wern't going to the series even having the great Ted Williams didn't matter. When I moved to Los Angeles I followed the Angels and theydidn't make it to the WS until last year.

The problems this team is having isn't new. they have been successful for three or 4 years, haven't made any major changes in the last two years. their players have gotten older, slower and less effective while their pay represents previous years greatness. I don't think any one move is going to put this back into contention. They need more power from RF, 3rd, 1st and LF. Although their middle defense is good their outfield isn't. Finley is goos not great, Gonzo is barely adequete, and there is no consistent RF to say.

Injury's have made a mess of the pitching. Schilling pitched great in Philly and has looked bad his last 2 starts. Reminds me when RJ struck out 20 and then pitched lousy in his next 2. Webb looks could although it is too early to say. Lets see him go around the league a second time. Bautista has pitched well as had KIm. Dessens seams to be lost. Hopefully he will find himself soon.
We can hope for the return of RJ but i think it will be too late.

My guess is that we will finish 3rd behind the Dodgers and Giants. They could do bettar if the hitting comes back but I really have my doubts that it will.

Everyone just got old at the same time.
The bright side is that i should be able to get bettar seats next year since they will be less season ticket holders renewing.
