The Lakers would insist on Lampe to go along with Marion, Johnson, and the #7. Remember that White's and Eisley's contracts (particularly Eisley's) have negative value, so they make the package worse for the Lakers, not better.

Would you rather have O'Neal, or Marion and Johnson? O'Neal, of course. That means the other players that the Suns give up would have to make the package better, not worse.

Even if the Lakers were willing to do this, I wouldn’t want to.

I agree. This does not give the Suns a team that is likely to win the championship in two years and gives away the team's future. In three years you have to start from scratch.

My alternative propasal:

Shaq + George for Marion, Lampe, Eisley, #7, (White + Cleveland's to Bobcats or included in the deal) will give the Lakers about 15 mil trade exception, i.e all the Suns have. George and Marion's bad part of their contract cancel out, with the latter much more valuable of a player to complement Kobe. The main gain is for the Lakers to get the #7, Lampe's potential, and the 15 mil trade exception, to sign maybe Randolf? Maybe not him, but you get the picture.

What'd be the alternatives? Any other deal would have to involve bad contracts like those of Ratliff's and Rahim's, since nobody is going to give them more than one very good players.

Suns:

Shaq/Amare/George /JJ/Barbosa

Dice/Jake/Zarko/CJ/FAs

It's a good start for future. The worst case scenario: Shaq quits after two years, then we'd again have lots of cap space to play with, but with Amare an established star and JJ battle tested enough to find the better complements for the team.

I tried - some will remember that I wasn't too high on Zarko Cabarkapa Draft time and the SF position would be my only worry, I do believe after watching the games early on that Cabarkapa could turn into a decent player though.

Shaq, Amare, Lampe, McDyess, Voskuhl - would be a good frontline (Lampe playing PF or C alongside Shaq or Amare off bench would be a good tandem). Barbosa and Vujanic are both good prospects at PG.

G/F: Barbosa, Rush, Jacobsen isn't too bad at SG - three 3PT shooters but Cabarkapa and #27 not too sure about at SF.

Defense and athleticism would drop off (2 of the more qualities I look for in Draft prospects) - so I'm not sure I'd do trade but I'm not too high on bringing Kobe over. Perhaps tomorrow a McGrady trade (favorite non-Suns player)... ;)

I find it kinda amazing we are actually talking about Shaq in Phoenix. Even if it doesn't happen, it still is amazing.

I read an article somewhere recently where he said he was all about team, and that is what he would love to be around. I think it frustrated him a lot and took away some of his fire. If you were him and you knew you could just dominate everyone, and you couldn't get the ball.

I think if he were to go to a team that passed it to him, and then had good shooters around him to pass back out of the double team, which he does very well, he will be rejuvenated and play with more enthusiasm, and probably wouldn't miss as many games.

His game is more of a boring style to watch, but if he is used properly, and he has the right players, he can bring a ring right away.

That said, you can't gut your team, like Jerry West did with the Lakers when he got Shaq. If you remember, he traded away almost his whole team to get ready for Shaq. A bold move, but he knew Shaq wanted to come to LA. But he is much older now, and you cannot just give everyone away.

I think the Lakers will be awfully interested in cap room, so they can build there team from several players on the market, vs just what one team has, and especially if the other team is not gonna give up the whole team for him.

We can absorb his contract, if we lose Jahidi and trade Marion. Throw in the pick and they may be more interested.

But if it was Marion and JJ, as much as I like them, it would be hard not to go for Shaq. His kind don't come around very often.

Sorry about long post, but we ARE talking about Shaq here!!

how about "NO"

I agree...Why would we want to give up all that talent for a guy that would probably "opt out" after one year? Doesn't make any sense...Besides, I think his poor workout efforts would make him a liability to our young players and a cancer, of sorts, in the locker room. We are much better off going after McGrady, et al, than Shaq. JMO
