Surprised nobody has really brought this up, but it apparently started at Hoops Hype  , and has been discussed extensively on the ESPN boards and phxsuns.net.

Phoenix trades away:
Tom Gugliotta
Casey Jacobsen

Wizards trade away:
Larry Hughes
Etan Thomas
Christian Laettner

I seem to remember this being brought up before...

That's not going to happen. Phoenix is in a terrible financial situation. Giving Washington Googs expiring contract doesn't seem to be a good idea to me.

Actually, that is not the trade that was mentioned in the article on Hoops world. I believe it looks like this...

Phoenix trades:
Penny Hardaway
Casey Jacobsen

Washington trades:
Jahidi White
Larry Hughes
Steve Blake

The writer said he had heard that trade mentioned, but really did not specify where he had heard it. Remember that the guys at Hoops world don't really seem to have any more inside sources than you or me.

That trade makes absolutely no sense for the Washington wizards. In fact I just went and looked up at article. Here's the link.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_4786.shtml

I’ve heard a rumor that Penny could go to Washington for C Jahidi White, G Larry Hughes, and Juan Navarro or Steve Blake. One of the two last guys would have to be thrown in for salary reasons or cash or picks. I believe that Penny is a big part of the Suns team but who is to say that two of these guys wouldn’t also be big for the Suns. White could possibly start with both Jakes backing him up or he could back up both C and PF positions. Larry Hughes would play basically the same part as Penny. Steve Blake could just be the third PG on the team. The reason the Suns do this is because it makes them younger and also helps them at C, a position where they don’t know how strong they will be. It also gives them shorter contracts. Both White’s and Hughes contracts run out a year before Penny’s. Also both of these guys could give the Suns something a little easier to trade with. They could be packaged later with Googs for someone else. It also could make big Jake expendable. Of course the Suns would also probably have to give up a first round pick or two second rounders but I’m sure that could be worked out. Something interesting for all of you to workout with your Suns team rosters. I believe it fits well but I doubt very much that it will happen.

Geez this guy needs to learn how to break up his articles into smaller paragraphs.

Don't hold your breaths.

Just say no to trading Penny.

Penny plays a very valuable role on this team.

The trade rumor Chaplin posted (which I heard about on the ESPN boards) seems to have originated with a site called basketball.com, not hoopshype.

The hoopshype rumor page is a compilation of articles culled from the print media. In other words, nothing starts on Hoopshype; everything there has already been in the newspaper. They always give the source at the end of each summary. Of course, that makes them somewhat reputable, except when they're quoting Peter Vecsey. :p

The rumor page on basketball.com is pretty much the same as that on hoopsworld -- just a couple of casual fans making things up.

Both "rumored" trades with the Wizards are bull.

Yes, its called, salary cap hell....

Untill Him and Googs are off the books the only way the suns can improve is through the draft.

...and getting rid of Penny Hardaway would be an improvement?

May I remind you that Phoenix almost fell apart once Penny went down last season?

Sure the Suns didn't do well but if we want to become true contenders we need to move cap. Penny as much as I like him and what he does for the team his cap space is and will endure the advancement of this team. IMO there are just as good vets out there that can contribute as much if not more than Penny.

That is true. However the Phoenix Suns could replace Penny Hardaway with a player making one third his salary. Also, and this has been talked about repeatedly, the Suns' struggles when Hardaway went down last season had more to do with the lack of depth than the team actually missing Penny Hardaway.

I like what Hardaway brings to the team. I liked the good attitude he had last season. I do think he is an important part of the team. He's drastically overpaid though.

I don't think the team would miss much if they could somehow (I'm dreaming of course) get rid of Hardaway's salary and sign someone like Stephen Jackson to the mid-level exception. It might not even take that much money.

An Improvment? Not at all. But we will never improve till we have the cap space to do it.

Trading Penny would be a step back now, but a big step forward in the near future...

The loss of penny was more a depth thing than a skill thing. We have more depth now(on paper) with the draft and with the young guys getting another year under their belts.

Larry Hughes would MORE than make up for the loss of Penny's contribution.

He is much more athletic, a better slasher, can handle the ball well but not as good as Penny though Penny's ballhandling will hardly be missed since the ball is in Marbury's hands most of the time and Hughes/Johnson can still both handle the ball to take pressure off of him.
And we also added a backup PG in Barbosa.

Hughes also shot the ball better than Hardaway even from behind the arc.

Hughes for Hardaway is really a wash. I can easily live without Jacobsen especially since Hughes and Johnson are more reliable than Hardaway and Johnson. Plus we are getting 2 big man that could be very valueable for this team.

And we get rid off Penny's contract.

Conclusion: This trade sounds too good to be true.

Hughes is 24 years old. He fits right in.

Hughes is only 24?

It seems like he's been around forever. He's been in and out of favor in Philly, then at GS before now.

I believe he was only 18 years old when he came into the league. He played just one season at St. Louis I think.
