Being here in NY I can only tell you that a cry of disbelief ran up from the packed auditorium when the trade between the Cards and the Saints was announced. I sat their with a look of disbelief myself thinking of what the Bears got for their pick (and subsequently screwed up as badly as we did). We got nothing extra for giving up the 6th pick in the draft, in fact tactically we lost out becasue of the losing the #4 and going so far down in the 2nd round. Can anyone give me a rational expalanation as to why we made that trade?

although it does not make sense..graves was mumbling something to the effect that they got 4 picks in the top 70..instead of 3...that is what he said on the radio..

The rationale is fairly simple: By acquiring the two no. 1s, flipping seconds - and giving up the no. 4 in the exhange - the CARDS end up with 4 selections in the first 70.... rather than 3...

No.

The Cards acted like they were the desperate team instead of the team with the leverage (high pick). They got fleeced. Why would the team with the 6th pick overall need to swap in the 2nd and give up a 4th just to get 2 first rounders? Makes no sense. Didn't Chicago just trade the 4th pick for the 13th and 22nd straight up? They didn't swap in the 2nd, or give up a 4th rounder, did they? Geez. Ugh.

Let's talk about that.

We sacrificed quality for quantity. We've placed "character" over talent (Here's a novel idea - how about both?)

But we don't need quantity. Our roster is loaded with so-called overachieving character players.

What we need is an infusion of TALENT in the wake of losing: Aeneas Williams, Jamir Miller, Simeon Rice, Eric Swann, David Boston, Michael Pittman and a #8 pick Thomas Jones.

We can only go so far with 53 C+ - B- players who are charming in the lockerroom.

What we essentially just did was trade Suggs for two guys named Johnson and Pace plus additional draft-slot concessions. If the Cards intentionally went into the draft with the objective of screwing up in the draft, they couldn't have done any worse - they would have been better throwing darts blindfolded at a dartboard.
