Crawled Through 5 FB Fields
1. Well, Jimmy G made it to the NFC West after all. BA, when asked about JG today, was effusive in his praise of the player and how he played against the Cardinals. Which makes one wonder, why didn't the Cardinals get in on the JG trade action? The Cardinals have players that would help NE and they have a surplus of 2018 draft picks.
I have stated many times, Jimmy G was my guy and top choice for QBOF. It frustrated me to no end that he winds up in SF with Kyle Shanahan. The rest of the NFC West is flashing right past the Cardinals.
I wonder if NE will ever make a trade with AZ again. Bill Belichick said he was happy that JG went to a team with a "good coach." It's no secret that the Cardinals, including SK, have been gloating over the Chandler Jones trade. Well, that likely doesn't sit well with NE.
2. WR Kelvin Benjamin to Bills for a 3rd and a 7th in 2018. Wow. Benjamin was still Cam's go-to WR, especially now that TE Greg Olsen is out. What kind of message does that give the Panthers' team? Good for the Bills---i though they would have liked WR John Brown and the speed he would bring, but getting Benjamin was big for them.
3. The Seahawks made their move in trading for 3 time Pro-Bowl LT Duane Brown. Russell Wilson restructured his contract to allow the team to add Brown. This is what teams who vie for championships do---they seize the moment in bold fashion. Funny, but in reaction to this, some AZ reporters and pundits are saying. "yeah, but the Cardinals made their move two weeks ago when they added RB Adrian Peterson." All I can say is---huh? It's one thing to add an AP on the tail end of his career, but it's another to add a Pro Bowl LT in the prime of his career. There is no comparison.
4. Apparently the Browns had a deal for QB A.J, McCarron which the Bengals reported to the league a few minutes before 4 PM EDT, but the Browns didn't report in in time. Unfrocking believable what is going on in Cleveland. Talk about laughing stocks. They pass on Carson Wentz to trade down and eventually draft Cody Kessler in the 3rd round in 2016---they play Kessler too soon and he fails. This year they pass on drafting Trubisky, Mahomes and Watson (even trade down again when they could have had Watson at #12), they draft Kizer in round 2---they play him too soon and now he's been benched and to know they wanted to acquire McCarron---for every bit of genius the Patriots are, the Browns are every bit of idiotic incompetency.
This is the thing about drafting or acquiring a QBOF---they all have warts---they all have question marks---but it takes conviction, hard preparation and patience.
Some of the so-called NFL experts felt going into the draft that Watson was a 3rd rounder. Like Dak. When are people going to learn? When the player has the talent and the coaches can coach him up---BANG---they have their QBOF.
Final Thought: imagine what the trading deadline would be if there were no compensatory picks in the NFL draft? Even though the Cardinals have 4 comp picks this year, I am still in favor of the NFL doing away with comp picks---they allow the best teams to stay at the top---they ruin veterans' chances of getting signed in March, April and May---and they slow down what could be some pretty amazing fireworks at the trading deadline.
