Training Camp Practice Report Sunday, July 27
The Arizona Cardinals continued day two of training camp with an afternoon practice on Sunday at N.A.U. in Flagstaff.
“It was spirited,” said Head Coach Dave McGinnis of practice. “We started off that 9 on 7 drill and the first group started off decently, not great. But then when that last group started jumping off, I had enough of it. I am not going to stand out here and watch that. We are not going to waste reps. We got people wasting reps and pretty soon they won’t be getting any.”
With thirteen wide receivers on the roster, reps are already scare at that position. The competition and limited number of reps is creating more pressure on the young group to make each one count.
“Competition is going to be intense this camp,” offered second-year receiver Jason McAddley. “We are all young and hungry at wide receiver and there isn’t a lot of difference between us as far as experience so we will all be in the mix and fighting for spots. We can’t afford to have a bad practice.”
Offensive coordinator Jerry Sullivan is spending a lot of time developing the talents of the receivers and has been very vocal about his expectations from the receivers.
“They are young and it is early,” observed McGinnis of the receivers. “Jerry Sullivan was crawling all over there ass and that is going to happen from now until we line up against Detroit, and the ones that line up will be ready to play, I’ll promise you that.”
The receiving corps understands Sullivan’s high demands.
“You get out there and get the opportunity, you have got to execute,” said receiver Kevin Kasper. “Coach Sullivan expects us to be a 100% and that is what we expect each other to be so you just have to go out there and execute.”
The team will return to the field with two practices on Monday.
Pasch Play of the Day
”Dexter Jackson shows great range and closing speed intercepting a deep ball thrown down the sideline by Jeff Blake intended for Bryan Gilmore. Jackson brings vocal leadership to the defense and will make some of the other younger players, mainly Adrian Wilson better.”
Injury Report
Offensive lineman Leonard Davis rolled his ankle in practice.
