Looks like I’ll be heading down for the weekend of the Seattle game December 8th

Would Glendale be the best place to book a hotel for the weekend. I know westgate has plenty of bars and restaurants

Or would staying in downtown Phoenix be a better option? Although not as convenient

It’s a Father son trip so pretty much beer and sports

Stay in Scottsdale would be my advice. More of a fun, party vibe and much hotter women.

It really depends on your priorities and driving situations. If your main motivation is the game, then staying in/around the stadium is nice to be able to just walk to the bars and game and not have to worry about driving. I know everyone talks about Scottsdale but it’s a long ways away, and really takes away from the game day experience if you have to drive.
There’s plenty around the stadium to occupy a weekend (topgolf, popstroke, Westgate, Cabelas, desert diamond Casino, golf, etc…)

Well, you could leave Scottsdale around 10am and be in your parking spot by 10:45. Or, there are plenty of party busses and shuttles you can take from Scottsdale. Admittedly, it would probably be mostly Seahawks fans on those.

old town scottsdale... get a hotel along scottsdale rd, somewhere between Lincoln and Indian School. For a Calgary cowboy you will enjoy a lot of the culture of Old Town.

Then just shuttle or Uber out to the stadium. Take a Waymo to dinner in Scottsdale. Fun experience for out of towners. Kind of take for granted that all my cab rides are driverless now.

Never Glendale.

Old town Gilbert has some good restaurants and bars. Plus downtown Chandler is also right up the road as well which has the best steakhouse in the valley.

If it's a Mormon family this is a great recommendation. But my guess is the original poster is not Mormon and not bringing his kids.

Have you been to downtown Gilbert on a weekend night?

Nothing there has to do with the above you are talking about.

recently rated the second safest big city in all of america - it's because nobody goes there bro - you know what i love about gilbert? the freeways - we don't have 3 lanes all to ourselves at all times in the valley - and the name itself - gilbert - come on man - if you've ever met a cool gilbert then you know they go by bert - lol im just messing with you man

Gilbert is opposite side of the valley and over an hour from the stadium with gameday traffic. If you want to fly to Phoenix for small town vibes, sure.

Yes, I live in Gilbert and go there more than I go to Scottsdale. It's not bad at all, but it's not Scottsdale. There are no night clubs. (I always think they are copying Scottsdale which is not a bad thing.) It's also farther from the stadium.

Of course thats why I said Scottsdale first.

Thanks for the replies.

If we were staying longer Scottsdale would probably be the better option.

I think we will go for Glendale just for the convenience and there’s plenty of bars and restaurants around to keep us fed and watered for a day
You also have a casino right there by the stadium as well.

Good call. If this is a one off trip and you are looking for best game day experience, staying by the stadium is the way to go. The hotel prices on game weekends has gotten a bit high in recent years, which is why we bounce around a bit. However, for one weekend, it is doable and most convenient.

My son and I travel once a year. Even though there are cultural experiences in each city, we prefer to stay close to what we came for… to watch the Cardinals. Unless we are there for a couple extra days.

I’m a native to Phoenix (over 60 years) and all of the suggestions were good choices. It just depends on what you are looking for. If you have extra time, Old Scottsdale is worth visiting at least for one evening.

My son and I do the same thing. We call them business trips. We usually stay close to the stadium and have our routine. Like order pizza after the game and watch the rest of the days games.

This year we went to Green Bay (unfortunately). Next year, we will have to see what game you are going to. We've been to Tampa (Super Bowl), London, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Kansas City, Green Bay, Houston 2x, and I think I'm missing one or two. Next year, we need to coordinate!
