Trevor Ariza to Washington for Kelly Oubre and Austin Rivers.

If this was true why was he playing even starting?

Earlier in the season I think the Suns were trying to make it work. Later in the season I think the Suns were trying to keep up his trade value.

He is not a homer. He is a Chicago style reporter that loves to complain about his home teams. His knowledge is decent but his opinions stink. If he is commending JJ you can bet it is the context ripping the team at large in some way.

I quit reading his articles long ago because I find them overly negative. Also I find them short of content other than opinion.

Heh, interesting choice of words by Igor. I think Ouchie and I had a couple of posts today about the NBA talent and the Suns.

What I think will be really interesting to see is how Igor handles the new guys vs. the guys responsible for the current level of play (possibly a three-game winning streak after tonight.)
Does he stay with Melton in the starting unit or does he go to Rivers almost immediately? Does Oubre take Ariza's minutes, or does Bridges play more minutes and then the rest are divided between Jackson and Oubre? I am a huge Igor fan, but I think he really values the experience and I am guessing he'll use the new guys more than the ones who have brought us the last two wins. I think that would be a mistake.

Also, I am really disappointed in Ariza. He's always been one of my favorite players in the league. I understand that losing is tough, but for a veteran to check out is just really disappointing, especially when the new head coach specifically said he wanted the GM to sign you to help teach the youngsters. I mean, I wish him well, but I am disappointed.
Haha I noticed that too and expected an immediate response from you! I think it’s a poor choice of words in his part too, particularly for a head coach who has to face the team that he kinda called “low on talent” in so many words. I chalk it up to his being foreign.

Here is the thing though how many players that really turn out to be good still suck after a year and a half in the league?

Very few. Everybody expecting a good result from Jackson at this point is expecting the exception to the rule.

He really has no excuse at this point, he has been healthy, he is above average athletically, but he still can’t seem to understand how to play to his strengths.

He hasn't sucked for a year and a half. He was quite good last year, but it did take some time for things to click last season. He ended up making the All-Rookie 2nd team because of his play in the 2nd half of last season. After Triano benched him in late December or early January though that was all it took for Jackson to start showing why he was picked #4. He has taken a step back but that isn't unheard of or that unusual for a 2nd year player. Last season though can not be counted in this "a year and a half in the league".

He isn't the exception, he's normal for the most part. A lot of rookies and sophomores will stumble in year 2 for various reasons. If he's not showing more in January and February then we can worry. Labeling him a bust and deciding to ignore half of last season is ridiculous. If he finishes the year how he's started it then I'll be worried. Until then, enjoy the other players.

I wouldn't worry about Jackson if he doesn't show more in January and February. At this point, I expect him not to show more unless and until he gets proper coaching.

Bickley and Marriota today said Jackson is a high IQ basketball player. Um, what?

jj does have a high bb iq (i.e. understanding of the game)
it's just that his skill doesn't match what's in his head
and he's not mature enough to balance the two.
he usually fails at the end of his executions
but when he starts controlling the finish of his drives,
he can be as productive as Socks or Barbosa was in that department

people keep mentioning he's one of the worst, statistically
but they don't have a stat for hustle
he IS one of our best defenders
and he's thrown some of the best passes to Ayton this season

overall,
he can drive, pass, handle the ball, defend, and rebound
and, too often, stink up the court like few can
a strong coach should be able to extract the better parts of him
and control his recklessness

This was my favorite part.

Although Igor did not mean it as a jab towards Ariza, it sort of came out that way.

Wow! Shocking. I guess he was just salary match.

Maybe they were worried he would have a negative effect on chemistry? I am okay with sticking with what we have until a good trade for a PG or PF presents itself.

Either we never wanted him and he was strictly included for salary matching or he was a bitch and didn't want to come here. If it's the latter, he's crazy because he would've had an opportunity to start.

I joked we would waive Oubre after the trade since I assumed we actually wanted Rivers... what a dumpster fire!

It could be possible that he asked to be bought out. That would probably make more sense than the Suns just not wanting him here.

Did not see that coming. So we added Oubre for Ariza? That was our big offseason move, essentially. I hope he turns out to be something here. I was willing to give Rivers a shot but now the Suns don't even have a contract to trade later if someone becomes available. We have Bender, woohoo! However we lack an expiring deal in the $12+ million range, where Chandler and Rivers deals were.

I never thought we were after Rivers, he makes little sense to me. I think Dillon was our target along with the goal of moving Ariza. I don't expect Oubre to be with us long term either but unlike Rivers, he should draw some trade interest. Hopefully.

Oubre was always the best player in this trade. I just figured they wanted both, but they might have wanted both and maybe Rivers didn't want us.

This makes zero sense whatsoever as he would've been the best PG on the roster. Only way this makes sense is if the Suns turn around and get another PG.

I don't think you will be pessimistic about the Ariza trade after reading this article.

https://www.azcentral.com/story/spo...d-trevor-ariza-washington-wizards/2334155002/

It sounds like the Suns will be much better off without him.

Man... I hated Ariza from game 1 on, but good lord... seriously, FRACK THAT GUY.

What a piece of crap. Dude is making 15 MILLION... forget it. He's just garbage and I hope he enjoys equal misery in terrible weather for the rest of the season.

WTF? Originally ask for Rivers and D Brooks and eventually tale Rivers and Oubre, with everyone thinking Rivers was the key addition to only buy him out?

There's gotta be something coming soon, if not, what was the point of the trade to begin with, when Ariza could've and would've taken a buyout.

Hm, interesting. I wonder if the Suns didn't want him or if he didn't want to play here. Either way, screw him. I like the current setup anyway. Crawford and Melton are getting it done.

My God... this is the trade that just doesn't stop kicking us in the nuts.

So, we basically gave Ariza away for another small forward to jam into or in front of our other two young SFs, and did nothing with an asset to even try and address PG?
