If there isn't a trade coming, how will people's view change about the Ariza signing? If we don't trade for a starting caliber PG, on the level of a VanVleet so there is some sort of bar set, by say the 10th of July, how will everyone that is good with this signing feel about it then? Will your views change?

There's a lot of talk of a trade happening and I want to believe that but I'll believe it when see it happening.

If the Suns off season includes the addition of Ariza and Van Vleet, I will be very disappointed. A trade is likely in the works involving one of the Suns wings. So Ariza fills a hole plus he will maintain CAP space next off season.

However, I want a PG that is better than mediocre.

So if there is no trade and we go into the season with Knight/Okobo and Booker in spot duty, will we hate on the Ariza deal? Read that sentence and tell me why "yes" makes sense as an answer.

No.

It's a good signing for 1 it's a 1 year deal. Ariza bring veteran leadership and a defensive mind set he's a culture guy. I think Dudley is gone honestly I think it's Dudley he is going to replace more than anyone.
So you're saying that he will not be part of the rotation?

I don't get this one, not surprising.... I mean ariza doesn't change anything, if anything it creates more of a logjam. If they were going to do this then they shouldn't have made the bridges trade, they gave up that unprotected Miami pick. I'm ok with playing the yougs suns, even if it means losing, especially with Igor's rep of developing talent. In the end I'm not even mad at ariza on the team or the money, I just think they could've taken on a bad contract and collected some picks intthe process.

Let's be honest, we're not going to compete for a title next season. I think at best we'd be a fringe playoff team (I'd be pretty stoked about that), so why not try to get a pick or 2 whilst developing your young team.

Maybe they did try, maybe they do have a plan, moving tj or jj perhaps, trying to get kemba or someone else. Personally I wouldnt trade jj, he looked pretty good during the second half of the season.

This is a weird signing. Ariza has played SF his whole life and now we turn him into a PF?

Couldn't our salary cap been better used on Avery Bradley or someone like that?

He played PF a substantial amount of the year last year. And this is a trend. Dominant center flanked by two interchangeable forwards that can shoot 3s and D up.

If our forward rotation is JJ Bridges ariza and bender we’ve substantially improved both our three point shooting and defense from a year ago. Two weaknesses of ours. This likely makes Warren expendable and we know they have already been shopping Chriss. Two guys not known for three point shooting or defense. I don’t understand how that’s not clear.

Without a real PF signing, or if Ariza is brought in like Dudley was to be a stretch 4 veteran then chances are Bender will be seeing some time backing up Ayton. Chandler isn't reliable enough to be his only backup for a whole season. So that limits our rotation some. If Warren is kept, Bender moves to Center and backing up PF, I guess I can see some improvement there but that's with Warren sticking around. What he can bring back in a trade will have an effect on how our rotation looks. If we don't make a trade though, I'm not sure how forward rotation improved that much since we're adding more players to cover the same amount of minutes. We've added a new Center and now 2 new wings/forwards and that will create rotation problems if we're not moving someone out.

Who's the power forward: PJ Tucker or Trevor Ariza? Because those were the two forwards in Houston last year. So no, he's isn't just playing SF. He's got a good 2 inches on PJ.

You mean a defensive shooting guard in a point guards body? No thanks.

I suspect Warren won’t last the season on our roster. I thought that when we drafted bridges.

I think that Ball may very well be the target. I would rather have him over VanVleet, but I know there are many that would not

Yeah, If someone is saying how are suns going to play ariza at 4, they must have not watched any rockets games last yeqr.

that said, I would have been more excited by other signings, but they would have been longer term deals. 1 year, giving us max cap room next year is good.

I'm not sure about your question.

The Suns came into free agency needing a PG and a stretch 4. I'm not sure Ariza fulfills those needs.

Now if Ariza is a replacement for a wing (the Suns may trade) things will make some sense. Of course the Suns will need a trade in place for a starting PG.

The Suns do not want Booker to play PG this season except perhaps late in games. I haven't seen anything from Knight that tells me he is a PG. Okobo is a rookie who will need time to develop.

PJ Tucker weighs 245. Ariza weighs 215 -- 30 pounds less. Is there any doubt who the Power Forward was?

I can't get excited about either. Van Vleet would be a disappointment for me.

Look we aren't making the playoffs this year. I would be fine giving Okobo minutes to develop if he has promise.

Correction, a defensive shooting guard in a point guards body who hasn't played above average defense in 3 years and whose offense has nose dived the last 2 years. Oh yeah and he's only played more than more than 64 games twice in his career.

Giving Bradley or Smart a multi-year deal at big money was my worst case scenario going into this offseason.

I think this signing seems a lot like the Dudley signing a couple years ago. We signed a SF to play PF and hoping it works out. At least it's just 1 year. Hopefully the Suns didn't screw themselves by creating a log jam that ends up hurting them in negotiations to trade Warren. It may look like we NEED to trade him now since keeping all 4 SF's we have is a recipe for disaster.

I like Okobo a lot but chances are he does not improve the Suns much next season. I'd like for the Suns to have a veteran PG in front of him so he is not thrown into the fire.

Let's hope a trade is already in place.

Amen. Appreciate the correction.
