One of the best gymnasts in Florida gymnastics history returned to Gainesville Friday evening for the Gators' meet vs. Kentucky.
Trinity Thomas is attending her first Gators meet of the 2025 season, two years after her collegiate gymnastics career came to a close.
Will Thomas return to the competition floor in the future? Specifically, could Thomas compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
Maybe…
In an interview with the Sun on Friday, Thomas initially said she was done with gymnastics. But when asked directly about the LA Olympics, Thomas was a little more noncommittal.
“I don't know, I don't want to say, no chance, but at least not for the next year,” Thomas said.
Thomas has attempted to qualify for the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. She suffered ankle injuries during the 2021 collegiate season that forced her to skip qualifying for Tokyo.
After graduating in 2023, Thomas returned to the elite world in 2024. She competed in a few events, but ultimately, she was forced to give up on the dream in early summer.
Thomas spent last season as a student coach for the Gators. This season, she’s been a commentator for ESPN and will be at the SEC Championships, NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional and National Championships.
This May, Thomas will begin nursing school at Florida, fulfilling a goal she had since she began college.
