Mar. 28—The Troy Trojans softball team is gearing up for another exciting season.

Coming off a solid 2024 campaign where both the junior varsity and varsity teams found success, the Trojans are looking to take another step forward this spring.

Troy rolled to a 28-7 win over Plains in a 7B District play-in game last spring. Against Manhattan Christian, Troy fell to the eventual state champs.

"Our goal as a team is to get better every practice and every game, with a deeper run in the postseason," Troy head coach Keith Haggerty said.

Growth and Experience Set the Tone

One of the biggest advantages Troy has going into the 2025 season is continuity. The team did not have any seniors last year, meaning they return an experienced core ready to build on last season's divisional appearance. This season, seniors Leslie Gravier and Autumn Fisher each bring three years of varsity experience to the squad.

Alongside Gravier and Autumn Fisher, senior Tana Grant is beginning her third season and will play a key role in guiding the team, while juniors Kylie Cole and Halle Wallace are also expected to take on leadership roles. The team remains young overall, but the returning experience should help the Trojans battle through the schedule. Sophomores Addy Fisher and Kirsti Jellesed will be expected to step up as key contributors throughout the season.

Promising Newcomers Bolster Depth

One of the most exciting aspects of this year's team is the influx of young talent. Freshmen Ainsley Huitron and Claira Folkerts already have experience at the high school level, having joined the team as eighth graders last year. Both are expected to play a vital role in the pitching rotation, giving Troy valuable depth in the circle.

Additionally, the Trojans have four eighth graders joining the squad this season, all of whom have shown great potential early on. With a roster of 21 hardworking players, the team's overall depth should be a significant strength. According to Coach Haggerty, every player on the roster will need to be ready to step up when called upon.

Competitive League Brings Challenges

The Troy Trojans will face a tough slate of opponents in a league that is anything but a walk in the park. As Haggerty noted, B/C softball is highly competitive and no team can be taken lightly. This level of competition will test the Trojans throughout the season, but with a strong returning core and promising newcomers, Troy is aiming to hold its own and make an impact in the league standings.

Community Support Fuels the Program

One of the strongest aspects of Troy softball is the unwavering support from the community. Coach Haggerty emphasized the vital role that parents and administrators play in the team's success. The Troy Trojans are ready to take the field and make some noise this spring.

Troy opens the season at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, against Mission.
