It's been, I guess, a month now that I've been watching D'backs games with the TV sound off and the radio on.

What a pleasure listening to Greg Schulte (better) and sometimes Jeff Munn (best) calling the game, with Tom Candiotti doing color commentary.

The light hearted radio give-and-take between play-by-play and color is about baseball.

They handle our last place level of play in an entertaining way, but keep it professional.

I watch a lot of the games on the TV next to my computer. So I enjoy the radio play-by-play. With the 5-second TV delay, I can still look over and see it as it happens.

The only thing strange on radio is Mike Fetters, when he does color in Candy's absence. The guy who had such a menacing stare on the mound sounds so funny with his high pitched voice. Just once, I'd like to see him while he speaks.

I did make one exception, the game devoted to honoring Catchers on the telecast when Joe Garagiola joined Sutton. Sutton, of course, is semi-mature when not announcing with Grace.

But I gotta tell ya, even then I found Sutton's voice to be grating. I enjoyed returning to the Guv'na and Candy's audio of the games.

You turned off the radio to listen to Garagiola? He's atrocious. I can respect the notion of hearing old time baseball stories but the constant harping about tobacco and his inability to be compelling or interesting makes it not worth suffering through.
