Twin Peaks is an American Emmy Award nominated Peabody and Golden Globe-winning television serial drama that follows the investigation headed by Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), of the death of popular teenager and homecoming queen, Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, Twin Peaks's pilot episode was first broadcast on April 8, 1990 on the ABC Network, until June 10, 1991. The show is set in a small fictional Washington town known as "Twin Peaks".

After its debut episode on April 8, 1990, Twin Peaks became a top-rating programme and was a critical success. Reflecting its devoted fan base, the series became a part of popular culture, referenced in other television shows, commercials, comic books, a video game, films and song lyrics. Declining viewer ratings in the long-running second season led to an eventual cancellation. In 1992, the series spawned a prequel to the series, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992), which attempted to connect the events leading up to Laura Palmer's death. From 2003 until 2004, Bravo re-aired Twin Peaks in the United States. Currently, NBC Universal's (also the current owner of Bravo) horror-themed cable channel Chiller, which launched on March 1, 2007, is airing the series.

Just started watching this show for the first time. I had never heard of it until I started watching David Lynch movies a few years ago. So far I've watched the pilot. Great quirky characters and a strange Lynch-like eerie small town atmosphere. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this one.

Officially half way through. Kyle MacLachlan was the perfect choice for Agent Cooper. There are some other great casting choices too. Miguel Ferrer as Agent Rosenfield cracks me up every time he's on screen. I even saw Squiggy from Laverne & Shirley in there.

I tend to get hungry every time I watch this. They really make a big deal about the food in this town. Cooper really cracked me up with this quote: "this must be where pies go when they die".

5 more discs to go, it's getting really strange now that they're revealing the killer.

Rosenfeld is the best. "Look it's trying to think," classic. :)

Good to hear someone enjoying the genius of Twin Peaks. It's going to get much more weird, but also keeps getting better and better. I won't spoil anything of course, but I would be shocked if you figured out who the killer was before they told you. :D

Let us know when you have gotten that far, and I'll say more. Enjoy the best show ever to hit the air waves.

They told us the killer was Bob, but now they're talking about the White Lodge. This show is really strange, so I try not to assume too much.

Agent Cooper is one of my favorite characters of all-time.

They have some great guests on this show. David Duchovny as a cross dressing fbi agent was hilarious. Billy Zane just showed up. As well as the girl from Karate Kid 3. I used to have a crush on her, way back then.

Ben Foster is really cracking me up with his civil war reenactment.

Wrapped this up. Awesome show, ranks around #5 or so on my all-time favorite tv shows.

Wiki has some interesting stuff about the canceling of the show and how fans where able to get them to come back and finish off season 2.

Now it's on to the follow-up movie, Fire Walk with Me.

I lived and died by the TV schedule when Twin Peaks was on. People either got it, or totally and 100% did not. (My not-yet ex didn't, which should have told me all I really needed to know.) Kyle MacLachlan was perfect. It was like being IN Highway 61 Revisited.

I suspect it's much more accessible to a slightly younger generation than it was to most people almost 20 years ago, when nothing so post-modern weird really had made the airwaves or even been part of really popular movies; there's been a lot more of it since then. (Now THAT really makes me feel old.)

It is coming back!!! On Showtime!!! David Lynch will direct the episodes!!!

Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, TWIN PEAKS followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer is shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues …

Loved the first season, but lost interest in the 2nd. Pretty cool though

Seems to be the consensus with many fans I know. Loved the show out of the gate and just fizzled as it seemed to go nowhere while getting more incoherent the longer the series went on. LOL. The movie Twin Peaks Fire Walk and Me pissed off most people I know that loved the show.

Not in the least bit Lynch's fault, and I guarantee he has creative control for the new ones.

Lynch has been quoted as saying he never planned on revealing who Laura Palmer's killer was. Either right before or during filming for the 2nd season, the network, bowing to fan pressure, ordered him to reveal the killer, thus throwing the 2nd season into flux. The network is to blame for that season being all over the place and the show getting cancelled. I have full faith in this new Twin Peaks venture.

That gum you like is going to come back into style :)

Freaking loved the X-Files. I can go back and watch the entire series even today.

It's weird for me. Seasons 1 & and 2 are just so dated and corny for me now. After the first movie I lost all interest in the TV series. To me, it was the climax to the series.

If anyone is interested, here are a couple pictures detailing the entire cast. A lot of big names on there, both returnees (David Duchovny, Kyle McLachlan) and new cast (Naomi Watts, Eddie Vedder (!)).
