CB1 is locked in with Houston for the long haul
The Houston Texans and All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. have agreed to a three-year, $90 million extension that makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. The team made the signing official with a comedic post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Once Carolina Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn inked a new $100 million deal last week, the Texans knew they had to get to work on giving Stingley what he's earned. Under the new contract, he'll earn $30 million annually surpassing Horn's $25 million annual salary.
According to reports, the deal also guarantees $89 million at the signing.
Stingley is coming off an All-Pro season in which he had five interceptions (tied for sixth most) and 18 pass breakups (second most). According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Stingley allowed the second-lowest completion percentage among cornerbacks with at least 200 coverage snaps (46.7%).
It’s a huge win for Texans general manager Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans, who wanted to ensure the No. 3 overall pick's days weren't numbered at NRG Stadium.
Fans and analysts all seem to love this move by the Texans, even if it was expensive.

Well deserved. As long as Stingley’s healthy, he’ll reset the market in another 3 yearspic.twitter.com/42uuh9jwqIhttps://t.co/XRzQswpvDL
