On KGME 910 this morning:

Word around Senior Bowl is that Clancy Pendergast is saying that he will be staying in Arizona.

Yet there is a somewhat conflicting rumor that Pendegast will be interviewed for the Cowboys HC position.

Oh please let that be true. We would be killing two birds with one stone with this one. Getting rid of an overrated DC in Pendy, and hurting the worst sports team in all professional sports.

Please let this happen.

I, for one, hope he stays.

With two smash-mouth coaches at the top of the food chain, I think you'll see Pendegast's creativity channeled in a different, more effective direction.

i wanting this to happen also. i hope pendy gets the job there if this rumor is true. my feeling is that the cowboys are going to go after ron rivera after the titans decline to let the cowboys to talk to jeff fisher. that is interesting that the cowboys are going after an experience hc. that means that they want to win now. ron rivera imo is the coach to lead this team .

But Rivera doesn't have any experience. :doi:

It looks like most people here are either in the love CP or hate CP crowd. I am kind of in the middle. It seems to me his defenses are either hit or miss. Like the game against Chicago this year or Atlanta last year the defense was unbelievable. But against teams like Green Bay and Oakland this year they looked really bad.

Who is out there that would be a better option then Clancy Pendergast?

Why do you say that, because some people hope he's retained? That hardly constitutes "love."

I'm not going to be torn up if he's let go, but I don't think there are any slam-dunk DCs out there looking for work. Pendy has stuff he needs to work on in his schemes, but he's not as bad as some would make him out to be.

I'm going to laugh when Jerra Jones hires Norv Turner. Norv meets all of Jerra's criteria:

1. Link to Dallas glory days.
2. Head Coaching Experience.
3. History developing young QBs including Troy Aikman (see #1)
4. Willing to be a yes man to Jerra. (Heck, Norv agreed to coach in Oakland for awhile)

Please let it happen!!!

Go Cards!!!

Rumor around here is the Cowboys are going to go after Marvin Lewis. I guess Jerry Jones sees all the off field happening with the Bengals and wants to bring back the "glory" days to Dallas.

Care to explain why you had to give me a :trout: when there are others agreeing with me?

Let's face it. Pendy has done an average job over the years and probably overacheived last year, while definitely underacheiving this year. Clancy's defensive strategies this year definitely left something to be desired. I will take the last game of the season as an example. Phillip Rivers gets hurt and his hobbling all over the field. What does Pendergast do? The exact opposite of what made him average/good in the first place. He drops 7 back into coverage, while only bringing the front 4. That game alone tells me that something is not right.

When Pendergast was successful, it was when he was bringing pressure, while disguising it in clever ways. He went away from that this year. I am not saying that he cannot improve. However, if he calls a defensive game, like he did against the Chargers, I will not be the only one calling for his head.

Isn't it concievable that he was asked to go in a different direction by the head coach? IMO I say let him have this year to prove himself and if it doesn't improve then scuttle his arse!!!!!

I know a lot of Card fans and board members are upset with Pendergast. I'm not sure I feel a whole different, but the deficiencies at CB can't all be blamed on him IMO. When our CB's played press coverage, WRs with any speed ran right by them. Even when they played off-coverage, they were beaten deep. Cornerback was a serious weakness, worsened by the lack of a real free safety. When he lost Bertrand Berry, most of the pass rush disappeared for long stretches. Every time one of his cornerbacks screwed up, there was Denny Green jerking them off the field. Yeah, that's a real confidence-builder there.

Given what's out in the market right now, I'm not convinced there is a better alternative. The Steelers brought back Dick LeBeau. The Dolphins hung on to Capers. It wouldn't be the end of the world if Pendergast gets another year to see....

I'm in the keep em camp. He has (with the exception of the first half of last year) done a solid job with the players he has. If he agrees with the Wiz to stay that's good enough for me seeing the Wiz has that ability to say no. We were the 8th top ranked defense last year. That says to me a lot more than luck concedering how long the D had to be on the field. The second half of this past season they were coming on with a pick up of the oakmans pass rush after Berry went down and when Clancy got back we were shutting down run games. I vote hope he stays at least on that side of the ball we will have the continuty one needs in pro football.

I'm in the keep him camp as well.

One of the notable differences between the Cards defense and the playoff teams I've watched is personnel. Playoff teams = Big, strong guys on the front line (especially in the middle) and solid cornerback play. We have neither - not Pendy's fault.

I think he did a damn good job over the last few years with the what he had.

Green has potential, Rolle is too slow, Francisco will help, especially when Samuels is back there with Green...

Not again! I don't know why i have to keep debunking this myth that the Cardinals' defense suffered because they were on the field too long. That has NOT been true for any significant part of any of the last three seasons. See my posts here and here for details. I have been trying to set the record straight for years! Here and here are a couple of posts from 2005!

I agree Dave - as much as our guys were on the field how in the hell were they supposed to play that well?

I wonder how those Rams defenses managed to do so well in 1999 and 2001 when their offense would score in like 3 plays sending the D right back on to the field.

No, but the defense was quite often placed in a difficult position because of offensive mess ups. I contend that they dealt with pretty poor field position caused by horrible special teams coverage and offensive turnovers.
