UCF football coach Scott Frost and his family are donating $500,000 to the athletic department’s Competitive Success Fund, the school announced on Tuesday.
The fund was established to help the school raise money for a new revenue-sharing model set to begin on July 1, pending final approval.
“UCF is a special place to my family and me,” Frost said in a statement. “The experience we had here, the people, the culture, and the passion for excellence all played a huge role in shaping who I am today and why we came back.
“Ashley and I are honored to support the Competitive Success Fund because we believe in the vision of UCF Athletics and want to contribute to the continued success of its student-athletes. The future is incredibly bright for the Knights, and we are excited to be part of it.”
Frost previously coached for two seasons at UCF from 2016-17, leading the Knights to an undefeated season in 2017, which was capped by a win over Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
Most Division I schools are participating in the $2.8 billion NCAA v. House settlement. As part of that settlement, those schools are moving towards a revenue-sharing model that pays athletes a percentage of revenue based on individual sports. Each institution is faced with a $20.5 million cap, which they can use to distribute on an annual basis.
“We are grateful to Scott and Ashley Frost for their gracious commitment,” UCF Terry Mohajir said in the statement. “Their generosity will directly benefit our student-athletes as we continue to elevate our athletics programs on the national stage.”
