UCLA hung on to beat Concordia of LaVerne, CA 62-61. Concordia led the whole 2nd half, UCLA hit a 3 with 16 seconds left(former walkon Abdul-Hamid) and then Concordia missed 3 contested shots at the end and UCLA won.
Horrible game. UCLA had 2 starters out injured, anderson and Roll, a 3rd starter Dragovic didn't start because he missed a team meeting, in his defense he had food poisoning and left practice Monday and was limited tuesday, he played a lot. Brendan Lane also didn't play, ankle sprain.
Gordon had 17 and 11 boards, Lee had 11, Drago had 12 and Keefe had 11 so you can see that's 51 of the 62 from 4 players. Lee got outscored 19-11 by Justin Johnson, so much for the he's going to be a lottery pick at PG in the NBA this year talk. Abdul Hamid had 7-8 turnovers playing lots of minutes with Anderson out, Lee must have had 5-6 himself.
None of the vaunted freshmen scored IIRC. Lane is injured, Stover DNP. Nelson looked strong in the first half but was 0-4 on FT's. Moser looks athletic but was raw, struggled with the ball and wasn't looking for his shot. honeycutt is going to be a great player, best passer on the team already, had several sweet passes to Gordon, but he too wasn't looking for his shot.
Gordon looks much better, much more under control on both ends, he appears to have the starting C position locked up. the best lineup tonight was Keefe, Gordon, Drago, Lee and Abdul-Hamid. I assume Anderson will start for AH, and I expect Roll to start and Keefe to be first off the bench followed by Honeycutt. Morgan looked better tonight, much better shape, he and Moser will factors off the bench too. I think Lane will eventually push for minutes I really like him, but he's been hurt for a week now with the ankle. There's talk Stover will redshirt but it appears he doesn't want to so that's unclear.
at least Ben won't have any problems getting their attention at practice from now on.
