not surprised. Real Madrid have no competition financially in Spain other than Barcelona and maybe you could consider a couple of other smaller clubs that still routinely give them problems, but they are viewed as substansially inferior by Real, but you could consider Atletico, Valencia, and Villareal.
many of the "top 6"premier league teams are indeed owned by internationals. Tottenham has a British owner. The remainder of the premier league teams also have a diverse group of ownership and investment as there is a lot of money in that league. It goes a lot deeper though. The Football Association in England and Wales, have a lot of football clubs at multiple levels of competition. Unlike American sports they don't have set "pro" leagues and they don't have NCAA or feeder programs (as we know it). Of corse sometimes it happens in a similar manner, where a player starts at a small club and later moves to a bigger club, but the player gets bought out by a big club or loaned for a fee from a big club to a smaller club. but what it makes it unique is their promotion and relegation system. Of corse this doesn't really affect the "top 6 clubs" hence their desire to make more money in Europe and other places around the world. But if you look at Leicester City, they are a recent club that have broken into the forefront of football in England. They have outperformed the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, and most recently Chelsea in the FA cup final. Because of the amount of money and interest in the premier league, it is not impossible for another smaller club to move up and become a top table team that earns the opportunity to play in Europe. Say for example Norwich City, they are one club that could become powerful in the future. Look at Wolverhampton as well, just a few years ago they were in the second and third tier. This is why Gary Neville went on his rant, although I don't agree with him some of the time and he can be a whiner, I think in this case he was one who put a dent on the Top 6's desire to break away from England.
Yeah for the most part the big 6 are my only complaint. They have a clear and decisive advantage over all of the other squads in England/Wales. There is nothing to stop them from buying and selling players at will. Well of corse levy is a cheap skate.
I agree, they did this because they are emboldened. they only backed down (for now) because the fans spoke up in extreme fashion. I'll try not to ramble too much, but the FA needs to actually do something to perpetuate fair play. I love the relegation/promotion system. I wish American pro sports had something like that and it would make league games more competitive. now you see the NBA doing play in games and the players complained about it, but it made the regular season more competitive and the LA Lakers paid the price for their lazy regular season. Everyone seemed to think they could flip a switch and it doesn't work like that. but to my point, in American sports we use a salary cap, and I don't like everything about it, but it makes for a competitive playoffs system. I'm not calling for a salary cap in the premier league, I'm just hoping something is done to hold these rich clubs to account for their overwhelming greed.
