do people still buy discs these days?

Rarely, but I do buy DVD's for the SUV because of the player in it. Usually they are like $5.

Also, I rent movies from RedBox because they are so cheap. Only problem with that is they are a month or so behind in releases than AppleTV

I do, but it usually is only if there is something visually or audibly stunning about the title.

Star Wars, Avengers, Batman = buy disc

Trainwreck, Creed, Dirty Grandpa = wait for cable

Bitrate is very important. HD streaming isn't really HD. It is, but it isn't. Proportionally it is, but it is missing information, and that information lowers the quality of the video.

For example, if you go to youtube and watch their 4k stuff, just realize, true 4k with full bitrate will look better.

HEVC will allow about twice the compression. So what would of been 100 GB's, can now be 50 GB's with the same quality.

I was thinking Force Awakens would be my first UHD blu ray.

I just wish Cox would have a higher bitrate on their 1080p broadcasts as well as some 4k channels. Because right now Cox doesn't even do 1080p right. Passable, but nowhere close to regular Blu ray.

4k will finally show it's worth with UHD Blu ray.

Like puck said, some stuff just isn't worth it. It would be nice to have, but you won't be missing much if you watch some things without it.

I'd really like there to be a high bitrate 4k sports channel, especially one that showed NFL football... maybe in about 10 years.

Yeah I tend to rent on vudu or something over going to redbox. More selection and I cant return it late.

And I dont have to go anywhere.

I couldnt tell you the last disc I bought. I mostly will only watch a movie once unless it is later on TV i might watch it again.

I also really like re-watching a good series like Game of Thrones where the audio and visuals are so great. I find that I can pick up so much more information that flew over my head on the first go around.

HBO is pretty good via DirecTV but the Blu-Ray absolutely is the best presentation not only visually, but they can add a ton more audio information in the format. It's basically like going from an MP3 file in each audio channel to a CD in each channel.

Still, if you don't light control the room and are only using the TV's speakers, a lot of those "extras" aren't going to make a ton of difference. It's not for everybody and I totally get that things are good enough for most people. I've never been accused of being most people. :D

Its OK, we all know you just want to be able to pause nude scenes. You dont have to hide it behind audiophile talk ;)
