So the NCAA is admitting they have no academic standards

What they said was that because UNC was smart enough to let non athletes take these classes too, it's ok to have a fake major.

I wonder if the current FBI investigation couldn't just decide to go after UNC for fraud here. They took federal money and they defrauded these poor students giving them credits in fake classes they'd certified to be real, and giving them degrees based in part on those credits? It won't happen but that's about the only way UNC would get hit now, if the feds came in and went after them for fraud.

The scary thing to me is this actually makes UNC more desirable for athletes now.

The NCAA said it didn't matter because non athletes took them too.

Disgusting but you could see this coming, it was very clear that the NCAA was looking at this is as extra benefits, not lack of Institutional control

Hard to say. They could could actually rule you ineligible for going to too much class.
