Typically, the NFL makes all changes through the uniform manufacturer (Reebok), and professional designers coordinated through NFL Properties. Fan designs won't even be looked at, unless submitted through a professional design company.

That being said, I recently hosted a uniform contest for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League. The Moose front office picked a design, and are in the process of working with the fan on final uniform details. Just got the official "thank you" from the Manitoba front office today, in fact.

This kinda stuff works better with the minor leagues...

thanks, section...

for remembering and propping my uni idea. Even though as someone else pointed out, the players would want their names on them, as players change teams and numbers these days.

bust it out!

go ahead....
Now here's my call for the first offensive play from scrimmage durng the first regular season game - for the huddle, put in the power set - 2 TE, 2 HB, 1 FB, 1 WR. As the huddle breaks, swap out one of the TE's, one of the HB's for 2 WR. GO DEEEEEEEEEEP!

I thought this would be great. With the helmet as the Cardinal head.

Ahh, couldn't figure out how to paste it. Just go to Pantone's site and look at LOGOFAN's concept.

The bird is still there. It's the HELMET!!

man i need some sleep......................

I especially like the little Arizona state silhouettes on the pants with the state flag design inside...

If there was a change to the uniform this would be my choice. The only thing I would change is the face mask to yellow (maybe red).

Well done

Why does the "State Flag" need t be on the uniform? I was looking around at other teams web-sites, and I haven't found one other team that has their "State Flag" stamped on their uniforms. What gives?

p.s. My only theory is that the Cardinals feel they need some sort of an identable logo (state flag) so people will know what city/state they currently play in. :) Wouldn't it make more sense to simply change either the name or uniforms to parallal a semblence of where the team is actually located?

My idea with those unis is to keep the overall basic look of the Cardinals - update it, but don't change it so much that the average fan won't know what team they're watching.

My other thought was to maybe come up with a full-body alternate Cardinal logo to go on the sleeves, but I'm not sure.

As far as facemask colors go - personally, I think a Yellow facemask might unbalance the colors too much. The emphasis should be squarely on the Cardinal Red with the Black re-establishing itself as a strong secondary color. I would fine with a Red facemask however.

Heck - at this point, I would be OK with ANY color rather than the stock-gray mask.

I like the state flag on the uni. I prefer it on the pants. I think it has to do with the fact that they are called ARIZONA Cardinals and they use the State flag to represent the Arizona title.

There ar plenty of teams that have nothing in common with where they are located.

Having one of the oldest NFL teams I think it would be a shame to change their name. I am not up for that at all even though I think the Arizona Firebirds would be a great name for the team I just can't get past changing their name.

Hmmm...the New Orlean Saints come to mind as having had the state silhouette logo on their uniforms...I think they stopped doing that in favor of the stand alone Fleur De Lis ...

I like the idea of our state flag on the uniform...it is the best looking flag in the union!

I gotta admit, that is probably why the state flag on the uni doesn't bother me. It is a very cool lookin flag.

Red on red was awesome. Only thing I didn't like about it was the 2 white stripes on the pants. make it a thick black stripe like the Eagles, add a red helmet with a black or yellow facemask (like the damn cardinal) and we've got a KILLER uni.

Hey PANTONE I really like your design!! Great Job! My ideas are more a variety of jerseys, helmets and pants in differant colors. But I do have maybe one or two combinations. Once again Great job!

Not that I'm taking anything away from the fine state of Oregon or Washington mind you...it's just that one looks like the dollar bill, and the other has a beaver on it (although it is the only state flag with a different logo on the front and back)...

One more thing...

the white on white looked horrible. It made the players look ungodly fat.

The image of Chris Dishman in white on white is forever burned into my mind.... arrrgh! :)

Just an FYI - I find this interesting, but I might be alone (!)...

The Cardinals actually have an official listing for the facemask Gray color. They actually consider it part of their official color set. I have access to the official NFL color guides and logos, and for a team that dresses up in basic Cardinal Red and White, it's kind of amazing how many colors they actually utilize.

Here's a run-down:

Primary Color:
Cardinal Red

Secondary Color:
White

Tertiary Color:
Black

Accent Colors:
Gray (facemask only)
Yellow
Red (flag only - it's a different Red than the Cardinal Red)
Blue (flag only - this is incorrect; it's on the White jerseys and White socks as well)
Copper (flag only)

Eight colors are a lot. The only other NFL team that beats us are the Cowboys (10 total colors!), and that's only because they have NO IDEA how to match colors. They've got two different Blues (Royal Blue, Navy Blue), three different Silvers (Metallic Silver Green, Metallic Silver Gray, and Metallic Silver Blue), a Black, a Gray (facemask), of course White, and two alternate Silvers as well. A total mess. I've been on a mission for years for them to pick a couple of colors and stick with 'em. They're a designers' nightmare.

One more thing...I promise to stop soon...

Each team has three sets of official colors, one set with Process information - the percentage of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black for each color, a Pantone Solid Color set (standard printing color set), and a Pantone Textile (Cotton) set which translates to the actual uniform materials. Pantone, Inc. actually gives descriptive names for the Textile colors, and when you translate the Cardinals' Textiles using the descriptions, it comes out like this:

"Deep Claret" (Cardinal Red)
White
"Stretch Limo" (Black)
"Penguin" (facemask Gray)
"Lemon Chrome" (Yellow)
"Cardinal" (the Red in the State Flag)
"Mazarine Blue" (Blue)
"Harvest Pumpkin" (Copper)

"Deep Claret" would also be a great handle for this board - besides my own (semi-) obvious one...

Penalty Uniforms

Why not create an extremely femanine uniform motif, and require the Cardinals to wear it in the game following any loss of greater than ten points.

- I'm thinking of the stripe down each pants leg consisting of cute little repetitive red hearts.

- Organdy stockings.

- Red jerseys with pink numbers

- Maybe a nice tasty 2-tone "cleavage line" across the chest (pink above, PMS 186 Cardinal Red below).
