For a minute there, I thought your sig was the majority of the post, and I thought Channing Frye was ranking NFL stadiums. :D

I guess you could argue some of the stadiums on that list, but UoP Stadium should be in the top 5, at least. Being ranked behind Raymond James is just ridiculous. That place wasn't even that much better than Sun Devil Stadium.

This article is crap. The 5 criteria are Architecture, History, Weather, Fans, and Location and he puts Lambeau at #1? First he says it doesn't have the Architecture. We know it has one of the worst sets of weather. Location is not good. It's not even in Milwaukee. Yes there's history and fans, but the if I was picking a stadium to go to for an event, Lambeau would not be in the top 20, let alone #1.

I feel like U of P stadium should be more like 5. I think he rewarded some teams too much for having great fan bases and histories. We're ranking stadiums not football teams.

Brain surgeons like this also rank Wrigley Field as the best ballpark in baseball.
For those of you who never had that pleasure...aside from the unique nature, it is the pits. Living in Chicago (and a baseball Cardinal fan) I can tell you that Cellular One (aka Sox Park) is a pleasure to go to and watch a game. Wrigley field is a joint, and if you need to hit the head watch your step while you are waiting on the wet floors. The Cubs deserve that place. Parking stinks so the train/bus combo is far better. Yeah there are plenty of gin mills around so what??

One thing I will say.....if you are on the prowl the bleachers are "awfully good" I have been to half the NFL stadiums and U of P is undoubtedly in the top 3 I've seen....yeah, I get to see the Pack from time to time too and Lambeau is okay.

UofP is a great stadium to go see a game but it's location holds it back from being top 5. It is in the middle of a cornfield with crappy infastructure around it. It may be 10 more years before it grows up. Had it been built near Mill or the 101/202 in Tempe it would be seen as the finest stadium for a sporting event anywhere in the country. Another boondoggle by the Bidwills and the politicos of our state. Unless your a diehard Cards fan it is hard to want to even make a trip over to the stadium.

Come on - it is not THAT far away - and Westgate is nice.

I'd prefer a Tempe or Downtown Phx Stadium, but to blame the location on the Bidwills is absurd.

They tried to get an East Valley location - many times.

Read the post Jon, I blamed the politicos and the Bidwills takeing a sweetheart development deal. Color it anyway you want the only bad experience is traveling to the Westside and watching the game in a cow pasture and no Westgate is all that is there and it is nothing to hang your hat on. You said it yourself it would be better if it was in Tempe. Not a top 10 stadium do to these factors. Location makes a huge difference.

Well maybe, but some of those stadiums in front of it don't deserve to be there. I don't see how Lambeau can be #1. It's cold. It's in Green Bay. It's not a modern marvel like UofP or Jerryjonesopolis.

Green Bay gets it standing because of its franchise tradition, atmosphere (in & outside) & attendance from loyal fans for 50 years, nothing else. I plan on attending a game there the next time our Redbirds visit. IMO we as fans including the writer shouldn't judge stadiums until we actually been to those stadiums.

My top 5(based on attendance)
1) Quest Field-The view & the stadium itself is spectacular. The food is great, the bars & restaurants on the walk from your hotel are very good. Fresh seafood within walking distance is awesome.

2) UoP-Love the look of the Cards stadium & history throughout (take the tour) the stadium is unique. Tailgating on the lawn is fun.

3) Arrowhead-The tailgating is awesome as advertised & the "New Arrowhead" is an outdoor dream

4) Cowpie Stadium-Incredible size & seating. Tailgating is much improved, the huge scoreboard is a negative to me.

5) Reliant Stadium-Massive enough to fit the Astrodome inside. Great seating throughout

The Bad:
1) Edward Jones Dome-thank goodness we moved...dark.

2) San Diego-seats seem so far away from field

3) Oakland-old & trashy thats filled with terrible fans

You're opinion will probably vary greatly if it's game in the end of December, snowing with a wind chill of -10 or if it is a September game. :D

Qwest field is overrated. I think Soldier Field should be up there. They have great fans, tradition, good location. The outside aesthetics aren't all that great but it's a nice place to see a game.

SD was surprisingly bad .... i know many people who had problems in cleveland, but I really didn't - nothing fancy, but a very solid stadium

I can understand Lambeau being number one, but not if those are the criteria.

The weather goes without saying, the architecture isn't very good and then the fact that the stadium is next to a K-Mart and Red Lobster on one side, and there's a trailer park three blocks away on the other. This is going to sound bad, but I think the fans are overrated. They're some of the loyalist fans but they've grown complacent from having tickets for many years and aren't as loud as they were in the begininng.

How does a mediocre stadium in the most boring state get ranked #1?

Don't know where you get that about Bears fans. Whne we were there for the game last year, they were probably the best I've encountered and weren't a-holes at all. Seattle fans were worse but they weren't terrible. Pittsburgh's are the worst.

You all realize that anyone of us could write a blog proclaiming UoP as the greatest stadium in the world! And it would have the same significance as the piece being discussed in this thread.

Im 10 minutes away from UofP.. :D I know a lot of Cards fans on the Westside.. You act like all the Cards fans are from the eastside.. Sounds like someone is still salty about the stadium not being built in the eastside.. :D

By a guy who has only been to 10 NFL stadiums which doesn't include University of Phoenix Stadium.

Yup. Anyone can write anything nowadays without any facts or basis other than his or her own opinion. It's sad.

I don't have any issue with Lambeau being #1 on that list. Mostly, it's because I think the history alone is pretty fantastic and I'd love to experience a game there for that alone. There isn't another stadium -- in any sport -- I can say that about.

Plus, I think "weather" shouldn't necessarily play too much of a factor in something like this. Football weather isn't desert weather. Might be nicer to sit and have a beer in, but personally, I LOVE watching football games in the driving snow.

You don't think Fenway park or Wrigley field have that level of nostalgia or even more in fact?

Yeah maybe just a little bit...but doesn't change the short sitedness of the Org of Bidwill and the political process that put them there. It was a pure money grab by the cards and a middle finger to the politicians that wanted there piece of the pie. The cost of travel was passed to the die hard fan which was most of the Cards base in the East valley. I paid the price for three seasons then found myself giving tickets away and watching on TV. With the economy best choice I could have made giving up my 4 endzone seats. I think the drunk fest is over rated there at UofP and most opposing fans and some Cards fans are just jackasses. I miss the tailgate (and I did that up right)hat tip to Derm but not the drive or Steelers/Cowturd fans.
