I like it, and it would seem to be a possibility, with Intel's massive presence here in Arizona.
Michael B was extremely shrewd when the stadium deal was done. The Cards contributed $150m towards its construction - about 1/3 of the total cost (incredible that they got that gem done for under a half $bil, when $1b seems to be the "starting" point for a stadium a decade later). But - they also got to retain the naming rights proceeds. That number? A c-hair over $158m. So the Bidwills netted +$8m between what they paid towards the stadium, and the massive offset from the naming rights revenue.
Now the question is, can they jack up the fee a decade later? First blush you'd think "yes", everything has gone up. But - we have new stadiums opening to compete for naming rights sponsors (LA, Vegas, Atlanta) and despite all the huge national events we've hosted here in recent years - nothing is currently scheduled of that magnitude, and the new NFL stadiums will all get a Super Bowl before one comes back here, meaning it's a long ways off. So that may hurt the potential price for the naming rights.
I think Wells Fargo is another possibility. Or perhaps one of the local tribes?? Or my favorite, and what I've called it from Day 1 - "Jiffy Pop Stadium" - it already looks JUST like a Jiffy Pop. It's a natural!
