What?
On my way home tonight I pull into a gas station to buy beer and smokes. Who do I meet filling up his SUV?

Jeff Blake!!
Man that was crazy. Anyway he was on his cell phone and I didn't want to be a freak. I did pull up and interupted him long enough to say good luck.

I'm a Cardinal fan first so have to go with Green and Graves decision here but hard to forget the high I had when Jeff was signed last year. I really expected he would get to compete for a roster spot this season.

He was real cool to me but understandably preoccupide.

That is crazy.

I find it hard to feel sorry for him. He's richer than I'll ever be, and he's had a long career.

He started out well in 2003, but seemed to regress each game until he was just pathetic towards the end (sorry Jeff!). This is probably the best thing for him since he was seriously looking at being the 2nd or 3rd string QB. Now at least he's got a chance to sign somewhere as a starter.

Overall, I like the move because I think McCown should start next year. I don't even have enough confidence in Blake to bring him off the bench to win a game or preserve a lead.

I'm sorry.....perhaps I've "overtasted" tonight but where the hell is Blake going to start next year........he's part of the group that includes Rodney Pete. Kordell Stewart etc.......these guys are done!

He might be able to drum up some sympathy since he played for you-know-who.

His career stats are still pretty good. You could be right though.

He was richer than we will ever be when he was drafted. I think a true competitor is never ALL about the money. Yes, it plays a part as it does in all of our lives. Hell, if I could get four times the money doing the same job by moving to another company I would be gone.

Age has caught up with Jeff. That's a fact of life that we all go through. In sports it's just earlier and hits harder. Especially when you haven't achieved the ultimate goal.

I do agree McCown should get his shot. I think Parsons should get the same chance. Football is a young mans game and all involved know that. I don't feel bad for Jeff economically. It just has to hurt to have a three year deal, new coach and things looking good. Then your suddenly gone. When I saw him it did seem like he was as shocked as we were.

If blake was in town...I would assume he had moved his family here and was here full time..this is generally the team of year where the players who are not permanent residents scatter to wherever they live during the offseason..

I remember when we signed blake - he made some comment he went to church in austin, tx with Leonard davis....so they knew each other..so I had assumed that blake lived in austin (which is not really near any city he played for (closest is new orleans)...

I'm not sure what his living arrangements are. He was at the Chevron at Germann and Alma School.

If any player isn't in town right now I would have a suggestion for them. Catch the first flight back and be in the training room every day! According to Jurecki this morning it's just the tip of the iceberg.

He might have just been in town to meet with the team, clean up any extra stuff around the facility and tie up all loose ends. A lot of pro athletes do live here in the valley, though, so you never know. If you've got money, Phoenix is a wonderful place to live.
