The #17 UofA baseball team went to Tempe last night and beat #1 ASU 4-2. Daniel Workman, who has not pitched much of late because he hasn't shown he can pitch at the Pac-10 level, held ASU to two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Workman was not suppose to pitch but found out 30 minutes before the game that pitcher Cory Bernard blew out his elbow.

Going into this year I did not expect much from this team due to how young they are, but Andy Lopez has done a great job. Heyer is only a freshman but he is one of the top pitchers in the league. They don't have much power but they get the job done. Lopez got rid of the bad kids on the team and it's paying dividends. It has turned into a very nice season so far.

Sure. Maybe tonight's game was a fluke due to the Cats starting a freshman reliever? This UofA team is one of the youngest in the country and they could win a game 5-2 or lose a game 15-0. Did not expect them to be ranked this deep into the season but Lopez got rid of the guys who were cancers to the team. I was one who thought the Cats might need to look for a new manager before the season began but Lopez has really surprised me.

ASU is clearly the better team but anything can happen. The Devils need to make the most out of this year because with possible postseason sanctions coming up, you never know how long it will be before they have a team like this one that has a legitimate shot at winning it all. Pat Murphy sounded like a guy who is not going to stay quiet.

ASU baseball has as much of a chance as popstseason sanctions as your basketball team does. Not going to happen.

You can believe that but from everything I have read, it is worse than what the UofA had found. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

This is true.

On another note, $C better get sanctions for everything that has been going on, but you know they wont.

This Cats baseball team is showing their youth. The majority of the players are freshmen and sophomores. Next year this team could pssibly be a top-10 team. A lot of talented players but very young. I would like to see Lopez bring in a JC power hitter.

Good job sCats, it appears the Devils didnt want to play tonight. 4 errors?? When did AJ Hinch become the ASU baseball coach?

If that's your reasoning than the Cats didn't want to play last night. The Cats lose 12-4 last night and they win 12-4 tonight. On any given night, any team can win. So far both teams are 2-2 against each other.

The Devils had 4 errors tonight. How many did the Cats have last night?
I do agree that on any night any team can win but you cant honestly believe the Cats are the better team.

I never said the Cats were the better team. I don't know what your sports expertise is but errors are part of the game. By the way, ASU gave up 9 earned runs tonight while the Cats gave up 3. The errors were not the reason ASU lost tonight. The UofA hit and pitched better and were able to bring in the runners when the opportunity presented itself, ASU didn't. They had the bases loaded and one out in the 8th inning and did not score.

Errors get in your head and baseball is a head game. Either way the Devils took 2 of 3. Hope to see you guys again in the postseason.

Cats made some crucial errors last night but I don't use that for excuses. Good luck the rest of the year. Cats need to take 4 of their next 6 games to probably make the postseason.

I think UA is in pretty good shape to make the post season.

Unless the NCAA treats baseball the same way they did softball, man did the PACX get screwed in the postseason for softball!

Scott, do you notice how much more civil everyone is here compared to DevilsDigest? It took me some getting used to.

Cats beat Baylor 10-9 in the first game of their regional. Next up will be host TCU. I don't expect the Cats to get out of this regional but the experience for this very young team will be so beneficial for next year.
