6.5 sacks in 47 career games at TAMU. There are extremely productive college players that go undrafted every year.

I used to agree with this, but changed my stance a few years ago. If teams can cut players and not have to pay them anymore when the player under-performs, than I have no problem with players holding out for more money when they over-perform.

Personally, I'd rather both sides be locked into the contract... but since that isn't how the NFL works... then let both sides try to out-leverage the other.

How many players get injured answering a phone while at work? I suspect you're referring to Thomas Jones, who broke his hand in a bar fight, and claimed it he did it answering his home phone. (Didn't his mom tell the team she saw it happen, or was that someone else.. I can't remember.)

Either way, this scenario doesn't related to a player underperforming their contract. This is something that occurred outside of the work-place agreement, of which I'd agree teams should be able to recapture funds in those circumstances.

Kellen Winslow getting injured doing wheelies on a motorcycle should be subject to have his contract voided if the team wishes.
Andrew Luck, destroying his shoulder by getting driven into the turf on a sack, should have his contract honored.

There is definitely a difference between the two scenarios.

Every job I worked, if you hurt yourself, at work or at home, they asked you about it. Especially if it caused you to miss work.

Just my experience.

I see the NFL no different than the modern day work place. If I want a raise, I better have leverage, and options. They can fire me at any point, without notice, thus I have no loyalty to said job, and make sure I am always in the know about other opportunities. At least 3 at all times.

Produce and you get paid.

False premise these players are workers. At that level contacts are established to protect both the executive and the company as well as establish pay, bonus and incentives.

If an executive is not performing at an expected level they are removed. The contract establishes the exit conditions.

I don’t see an injustice period. I was trying to bring attention of the risk of employing people at this level. Huge risk therefore the contact which both parties sign. What is this compassion to one side or the other?

He signed an extension in December 2016. You can't give a guy a new contract every year.

I have no compassion for either side.

The players are partaking in a high risk/reward job.

They get hurt, and it could be all over. They have insurance to cover their butts too.

Do not get the whole "our contacts should be guaranteed". Because, who would not like that ? I know I would.
