The Oklahoma City Thunder have clinched the first seed. Not surprising considering they've held a double-digit game lead in the standings for most of the season. But let's look at the rest of the West playoff picture.
The Thunder swept their final back-to-back of the season with a 125-112 win over the Phoenix Suns. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out, Jalen Williams led the way with 33 points and Chet Holmgren had a 22-point double-double. The game also eliminated the Suns from postseason contention.
Less than a week remains in the 2024-25 regular season. Even though the Thunder aren't involved, plenty of heated races for seeding have ramped up as the margin for error gets thinner. Thunder Wire will conduct daily updates on the West's standings until the season ends:
What happened last night?
Lakers 122, Mavericks 97: It was an emotional return for Luka Doncic to Dallas. This marked the first time he played at the Mavericks since he was shockingly traded at the deadline. After being teary-eyed from a tribute video, Doncic scored a season-best 45 points. Meanwhile, the Dallas crowd loudly chanted all game to fire GM Nico Harrison.
Spurs 114, Warriors 111: Shaking up the entire West playoff picture, Harrison Barnes' game-winner against his old squad shocked the Warriors. Stephen Curry had 28 points and Jimmy Butler had 30 points but that wasn't enough. Golden State now deals with the real possibility of dropping into the play-in tournament.
Thunder 125, Suns, 112: Just like that, the Suns went out with a whimper. Devin Booker had 20 points and 14 assists but it was all for naught. Phoenix's postseason hopes were on life support and the Thunder pulled the plug. Jalen Williams had 33 points and clinched the NBA's best record. The Suns now focus on a seismic offseason where Kevin Durant likely gets traded.
Nuggets 124, Kings 116: After shockingly firing Michael Malone, the Nuggets won their first game with interim David Adelman. Nikola Jokic had a 20-point triple-double. Denver made the jaw-dropping move hoping to save its playoff aspirations at the final minute. We'll see if it works out.
Clippers 134, Rockets 117: With the second seed locked, the Rockets punted this game and sat out all their top players. The Clippers took a minute to open up the gifted win but eventually did so in the fourth quarter. James Harden had 35 points and 10 assists.
