The Philadelphia 76ers have nine games left in the 2024-25 season after they fell to the Washington Wizards 119-114 at home on Wednesday night. They are sitting at 23-50, and while they are not technically eliminated from the play-in race just yet, they are focused more on keeping their top 6 protected draft pick at this stage in the season.

They are locked in a race with the Brooklyn Nets who fell to the Toronto Raptors 116-86 at home on Wednesday. The Sixers and the Nets split their 4-game season series so there will be other tiebreakers to determine who finishes where in the standings when the season wraps up on April 13. At that point, it will be a long wait until the lottery on May 12 to see if the Sixers will keep their pick.

The following is an updated look at the standings as well as the tiebreaker scenarios between the Sixers and the Nets:

March 27 play-in/lottery standings

10. Miami Heat 31-41 --GB (final play-in spot in the East)

11. Toronto Raptors 26-47 5.5 GB

12. Philadelphia 76ers 23-50 8.5 GB

13. Brooklyn Nets 23-50 8.5 GB (fifth-worst record in the East)

Tiebreaker scenarios

The first tiebreaker when it comes to the standings is the head-to-head matchups. When considering the two teams split the four games, the next tiebreaker is division record. Both the Sixers and the Nets have an identical 3-11 divisional record so the next tiebreaker is conference record. The Sixers have a 14-30 record within the conference while the Nets are 13-34. Therefore, Philadelphia is ahead of Brooklyn in the real standings, but the Nets are currently ahead of them in the lottery standings.
