Hightower wants to park "The Bread Truck"

http://www.azcardinals.com/blog/blog.php?author=1

On our most recent podcast, the subject of a nickname for rookie running back Tim Hightower came up. I mentioned that I had seen Hightower referred to as "The Bread Truck," a moniker that brought chuckles. I will be honest, I thought it was a recent fan invention. Apparently it wasn't, so I decided to go right to Hightower and find out where it came from. Turns out, it's legit -- but Hightower wants nothing to do with it. In fact, when I brought it up, his first reaction was "Oh man, I knew that was going to come back sooner or later."

Turns out, and this is Hightower's own assessment, he could get "kind of lazy" at times when he would carry the ball in college. An analyst who either did the Richmond games on TV or radio made note that Hightower carried the ball once like a loaf of bread -- a football no-no. Later, Hightower broke off a long run (he believes it was against New Hampshire) and the announcer said "There goes The Bread Truck." A guy who runs hard but carries the ball like a loaf of bread. Kind of a backhanded insult, actually.

"It’s not really a good nickname," Hightower said. "I wanted to leave that back there (in college)."

to me this is simple.....

Everyone remembers that huge cop from Police Academy....Officer Hightower.

I say his nickname should be "Officer" or "Officer Hightower"

Tower of Power seems fitting due to his great body lean when he's running the ball.

IMO he needs to prove himself in real games before he gets a nickname.

I agree with this, but, give me TDs like he has is in preseason and I'm ready. If Breadtruck equates to fumble prone it needs to go away.

I was under the impression that he didn't fumble once his entire career in college. Who cares how he held the ball?

zactly, as long as he held it across the goalline.

Ditch the bread truck..didn't realize it was a slight on the guy. Freaking Spider announcers.

Though my boy Sasha on the Lakers nickname of The Machine was originally a slight against him, it stuck with everyone when his production made it cool. I don't think the Bread Truck has that kind of flip flop power though.

You don't want to give the defense any thoughts of being able to strip the ball; no self-fullfilling prophesies.
