Such a great pick. If he'd played his senior year, he would've been a first-rounder!

Says potentially severe wrist injury. I have no idea what play it happened on didn't notice in the game. So Fells and Gresham are the TE's right now.

I don't wish injury on anybody but I have no idea what the Cards ever saw in Niklas he was supposed to be a good blocker but can't even do that.

Nickedglass has reached epic bust proportion.

Keim and company simply threw away a 2nd round pick on a limited developmental non-catching TE.

Jurecki says he is going on IR. I expect Momah to come up to the active roster.

Drives me up the wall.

Draft a TE on a team that doesnt utilize TEs. May have well be a fullback.

Atrocious. Couldve had Gabe Jackson pro bowl caliber G. Preston Brown, very good LB. Jarvis Landry or Allen Robinson. Top 10 All pro WRs.

Oh also, Jimmy Garopollo.

Its not hindsight BC I knew it was bad the day it happened, and its still bad now.

Totally hindsight.

100% not because virtually anybody not named Troy Niklas wouldve been a better pick than Troy Niklas

I said it then and ill say it again. "It doesnt matter if hes Gronkowski 2.0 he will be wasted on this team because we dont use TEs"

and we dont

I hated the pick because I'd seen the guy play and he looked like a LB playing TE. He always looks "stiff" to me when he runs and he just had no fluidity to his game at all. At the worst I hoped he'd be a capable blocker but he hasn't been and he's been hurt so much.

He's the classic guy that looks great at personal workouts in shorts and a tank top but not a great player. 37 catches in 2 years at TE in college, 32 his junior year 6 TD's 15.6 YPC I guess the Cards just thought great combination of size and speed developing kid. Everything I saw on him he just didn't look like a TE he had no idea what he was doing.

The Cardinals like to run out of 12 personnel. That requires 2 TEs who can block and catch. When the Cardinals drafted Niklas they were hoping he would be one of those two TEs. Unfortunately he ended up being very fragile for a big guy.

Clearly this was a draft for need pick. The Cardinals didn't have a serviceable TE on the roster going into the draft and it wasn't a deep draft for TEs.

Now THIS is revisionist history. The Cards had Rob Housler and John Carlson on the roster that season and Darren Fells waiting in the wings. This wasn't a need pick because they thought that Niklas probably wasn't going to be ready to contribute as a rookie, anyway.

And it wasn't some surprise that Niklas was made of glass. He was injured in college and injured WHEN THEY DRAFTED HIM. Should've just kept Jim Dray.

Played in 35 of a possible 35 NFL football games, starting 19 of them. Notched 23 receptions for 303 yards and 1 TD.

Niklas has played in 26 games and started just 7 in the same period. 8 receptions for 71 yards and 2 TDs.

Ha! Yeah Rob Housler was a power house in the running game. He was the ultimate dual threat TE. LOL

Darren Fells had been playing professional Basketball in Argentina for four years before trying to make it in the NFL. He was a total project and a complete unknown.

As for when the Cardinals thought Niklas would contribute... Here is what Keim and BA said after they drafted Niklas:

Ask Bruce Arians or General Manager Steve Keim how long it will take Notre Dame's Troy Niklas to be ready to contribute during the 2014 season and it sounded like they had just drafted Tony Gonzalez or Mark Bavaro.

"How long does it take to get on an airplane?" Arians deadpanned.

"Once he gets through baggage claim," Keim quipped.

Let's be honest, Jim Gray probably doesn't get on the field over Fells or Gresham.
