Let's be honest, Jim Gray probably doesn't get on the field over Fells or Gresham.
Neither does Troy Niklas, so what's the difference, except that you ALSO get to use that second-round pick on another player.

They have to stop overdrafting players with a questionable draft boards
They are not gurus, and I dont like their love for small school prospects

I agree but Niklas was a ND kid not a small school kid that's what made it tough.

You have to be careful with guys changing positions, some of them are obvious, Anthony Barr looked great on defense right away for example, but with Niklas he just looked so mechanical and stiff when he ran I was baffled as to why they were so high on him.

I always hoped we had some inside scoop on him like Floyd told the Cards that kid looked great at TE in practice, something like that, but so far he's just been what I said he was after we picked him, a total reach.

Drives me up the wall.

Draft a TE on a team that doesnt utilize TEs. May have well be a fullback.

Atrocious. Couldve had Gabe Jackson pro bowl caliber G. Preston Brown, very good LB. Jarvis Landry or Allen Robinson. Top 10 All pro WRs.

Oh also, Jimmy Garopollo.

Its not hindsight BC I knew it was bad the day it happened, and its still bad now.

The Cardinals like to run out of 12 personnel. That requires 2 TEs who can block and catch. When the Cardinals drafted Niklas they were hoping he would be one of those two TEs. Unfortunately he ended up being very fragile for a big guy.

Clearly this was a draft for need pick. The Cardinals didn't have a serviceable TE on the roster going into the draft and it wasn't a deep draft for TEs.
Dead on! Some peeps can't understand the TE for the Cards is & will be an afterthought on this offense, especially with the WRs it has.

Played in 35 of a possible 35 NFL football games, starting 19 of them. Notched 23 receptions for 303 yards and 1 TD.

Niklas has played in 26 games and started just 7 in the same period. 8 receptions for 71 yards and 2 TDs.
You really can't still be touting that slow fool can you K9? I mean really, come on man!

Dray is a good blocker and he catches the ball when thrown to him. Much cheaper than Niklas and we could use that 2nd pick on someone else.

The cards reached because Niklas appeared to be a late bloomer to them by changing positions but so far hasn't panned out.

Hate to say it, but Steve Keim's drafts are looking more and more awful as time goes by.

K9 has a legit point---the Cardinals got a heckuva lot more out of Jim Dray than what they've been getting out of Niklas. Dray was a 7th rounder who was battling back from a bad knee injury in college. Niklas was a 2rd rounder who has been injured and largely unproductive since day one.

The good news is---Darren Fells. That guy is legit.

Now THIS is revisionist history. The Cards had Rob Housler and John Carlson on the roster that season and Darren Fells waiting in the wings. This wasn't a need pick because they thought that Niklas probably wasn't going to be ready to contribute as a rookie, anyway.

And it wasn't some surprise that Niklas was made of glass. He was injured in college and injured WHEN THEY DRAFTED HIM. Should've just kept Jim Dray.

I think it's a little weird to accuse someone of revisionist history, saying this wasn't a need pick when you said this when we drafted him:

I was pretty happy with this pick. We needed a TE, and it seems like Keim is ready to become reformed with some of his garbage legacy prospects. Niklas was the best prospect for this team, at this time. If we'd picked him at 27, I expect that some people would still be praising this pick.

Niklas is probably my favorite pick in this draft.
