The pathetic lineups will continue for another season.

We aren't contending next year anyways

Was listen to Burns and Gambo show and they even asked Gibby about it and he said he hasn't heard anything. Could be a just a rumor. Does the dbacks have horrible players on the team right now? I know there are a few good players, but the majority are bad. How can a Coach make that work?

I'm not crazy about some of his batting orders but other than that Gibson has been a decent manager. We have had a very good record in one run games the last several years, which means he has made solid decisions in-game tactically.

Overall I think the importance of an MLB manager is lower than that of coaches in other major sports. I dont see the a new manager making this team tangibly better or worse.

My only real gripe with Gibby is his inability to work with players who don't fit his mold. Hopefully he has learned some hard lessons on those fronts as the "gritty" guys brought in have almost entirely fallen on their faces.

I saw somewhere that LaRussa denied the report and said that evaluations were ongoing.

#1 Pitcher down with Tommy John surgery
#2 Pitcher down with Tommy John surgery
#3 Pitcher down with Tommy John surgery
#2 Reliever down with Tommy John surgery

Goldschmidt out injured
Pollack out injured
Trumbo out injured
Hill out injured

What exactly is Gibson supposed to do? Piss excellence and demand magical wins?

This team was going to stink or already stinking before most of those guys went down. But IMO 90% of the problem was the roster construction and the utter destruction of our organizational depth.

WASHINGTON -- Tony La Russa declined to meet with reporters Tuesday, but through a spokesperson, the D-backs' chief baseball officer said a USA Today report that stated the "D-backs currently plan to bring back" manager Kirk Gibson for 2015 was inaccurate.
La Russa directed reporters back to the comments he made Monday when asked about the job status of general manager Kevin Towers and Gibson, which did not indicate whether he was leaning one way or the other.
"I don't think the timing for each of those has to coincide," La Russa said. "I just think that at this point, we're at Aug. 18, I've been around three months, I've observed a lot, talked to and met with a lot of people in the organization. I have a much better idea. I just think the official comment is, we're at Aug. 18, the season is a month and 10 days from being over. So it won't be long until you have to trot out your plan officially."
Towers and Gibson each received contract extensions just prior to the start of Spring Training. At the time, the organization declined to reveal the length of the extensions, but they are believed to run through next season, as 2014 had been the final year of their prior deals.

But we were talking about Gibson returning next year, right? Wasn't that the OP?

If made correctly, the decision isn't about the past. It is about the future.

Has Kirk Gibson proven himself to be an effective leader? Especially one who can lift his team from the doldrums. I say no, he hasn't.

He mumbles to the Press. He contradicts himself from day to day. He abandons commitments without giving them a chance.

If nothing else, for the D-backs to change their image going forward, they need a new face at the top. The manager is clearly the most visible representative of the team day-to-day during the season.

And his Bench Coach, Pitching Coach (who admitted he was afraid to take charge early in the season because of his lack of experience) and Hitting Coaches need to go, too.

How can a team move forward while mired in the past? It is too much to expect.

The D'backs have slumped to within two games of the worst record in the league. There are always mitigating circumstances, but ultimately the manager is evaluated on the team's record.
