Word is he found out Thursday he's been cleared to enroll by the NCAA Clearinghouse after a very long 2 year plus ordeal after failing to qualify out of HS for UNLV.
Interesting kid he's been playing basketball for only 5-6 years, IIRC he wasn't actually born in the US(not positive I think it was some caribbean island) but grew up in the US and just took up hoops later in life. Very athletic kid about 6'8" and can really jump, has bulked up considerably since HS(from 190 to about 215) and should help USC on the glass too.
Doesn't play a lick of defense, even he admits it's his weakness, reports from the Say No league in LA are that he's putting up 20 + PPG and giving up just as much to whoever he "guards". It's a summer league, the court they play on this year isn't even regulation length, but he is notorious for not playing defense so it will be interesting to see if Floyd can get him to do so, since Floyd is a defensive minded coach.
Head case kid, his team lost in the playoffs in Say No to a team that has Roll and Mata on it from UCLA. Reports are Jefferson and Bryan Harvey(ex Louisville now Fresno State) got into a fight on the sideline late in the game, they're on the same team. Jefferson reportedly punched one of the assistants on his HS team in the face during his junior year which is when most of the Pac 10 stopped recruting him. Very talented kid he's wanted to go pro for 2 years now but NBA teams told him he had been out so long he'd go undrafted.
Looks like Donte Smith won't play for USC this year and at best Angelo Johnson would be 2nd semester eligible so really now they're only waiting on Mayo to clear the amateur status hurdle. They released Leonard Washington from his LOI when he failed to qualify, he's from Louisiana but enrolled in a alternative HS in Compton, Thurgood Marshall so that probably indicates he's still interested in USC next year?
Gotta hand it to Floyd he has a recruiting MO and he sticks to it, he doesn't seem to care about academics, if they can play, he'll do whatever he can to get them qualified.
