By TFY Draft Preview

The Trojans could have as many as five players hear their names called during the draft's initial 45-selections and none of them worked out at the combine. Most will finally take to the field for scouts today and we've got you covered. Updated 2:00

Early Results:

Besides all the Head Coaches and league personnel at Hawaii on Tuesday, more scouts, GMs and coaches have ascended on the campus of USC. Carolina Panthers coach John Fox and Titan GM Floyd Reese were among those to be noticed early at the proceedings.

Defensive end Kenechi Udeze came in at just under 6-foot-3 and weighed in at 272 pounds. Udeze posted a vertical jump of 39-inches and did 25 reps on the bench press. Udeze's forty time came in between 4.75 and 4.80 by the many watches doing the clicking.

Udeze looked to be in phenomenal condition with a cut frame.

Cornerback Will Poole has really not looked good through the early action. Poole posted a vertical jump of 36 1/2-inches and a broad jump of 9-foot-7.

Poole ran his forty in the 4.67-4.68 range.

Jacob Rogers came in a hair under 6-foot-6 and weighed in at 305. The offensive tackle posted a vertical jump of 31 1/2-inches and a broad jump of 8-foot-4. He also threw up 33 reps on the bench press.

The surprise of the day has been Norm Katnik. Katnik came in at 6-foot4, 296 pounds and showed incredible strength with 35 reps on the bench press. He also had a vertical jump of 30 1/2-inches.

Keary Colbert had a vertical jump of 36-inches at 201 pounds. With concerns about his speed, the wide receiver ran a pair of forties in the high 4.4's.

If we don't go WR in Round 1, this guy should be looked at. Great hands, elusive, good locker room guy and he can play.

Any thoughts?

I still think Udeze is going to be a great defensive end.

He's a Poor man Hines Ward. If we don't go WR in the 1st round the Cards should draft this kid.

Good comparison, he'll probably be around in Round 3 also. The subject might be moot though because if Fitzgerald is there at #3, Green will take him. If Fitz is gone: Wilfork(1) Strait(2) Colbert(3).

I would like to know why Mike Williams did not do his Pro Day with his team mates? Is he hiding somthing until April?

because he declared late he's trying to catch up and is now training hard to catch up with the rest of the prospects. While other prospect had 2 month to prepare Mike has only a matter of weeks to get himself into shape.

He can only go down the chart by waiting. He is hiding something, in my mind. He might be trying to correct some big ol' flaw. NFL doesn't seem to draft mystery men anymore. Maybe he was never top ten. Don't forget, he is a tweener. Lack of speed at WR and not enough bulk at TE. :wtf:

As an impartial observer, I'd rather have Mike Williams than Kellen Winslow, Jr....but it's close.

Poole had been sick for the week prior to his Pro Day, and this may account for his poor forty times. The prudent thing to do would be to (a) ignore the forty times but (b) insist he run the forty over when he's fully recovered - because at some point before the draft, he's going to have to prove he's fast enough.

I've downgraded Udeze to 2nd best DE (behind Smith of Ohio State) because (a) in the few USC games I saw, he never did much, (b) at 4.75 - 4.80, his speed is just ordinary for a 273 pound dude and Smith (who's similar in size) was pretty productive in college and ran a 4.58 - which is more than just marginally faster than Udeze.

The Mike Williams thing is kind of strange. What does he gain by waiting til April 8th? What does he possibly lose by not working out with his teammates and not interviewing with the various teams earlier?

I hate that smiley.

(1) You're right that he can only slide by waiting. If he runs a bad 40, he won't have time to schedule another pro day (a la Sean Taylor). Also, I don't think that he's been in SoCal for some time. He lives in Florida (Keyshawn recruited him to 'SC), and that's where he's training.

(2) Tweener? You're kidding, right? "Lack of speed" means that he probably won't run a 4.40. He can run as good a 40, if not a better one, than Larry F. I guarantee that he'll run a better 40 than Winslow, Jr. The real questions on M. Williams are about maturity and ability to run crisp, NFL-style routes. His size easily makes up for any minimal lack of footspeed.

I think Poole was battling a bad case of strep throat at his workout. I guess any case of strep throat is bad!

He is a classic tweener. How do you compare TE speed to WR speed. Major difference in requirement but there isn't much difference between these 2. Winslow is a TE with WR skills and speed. 6'4" 250 4.55.
Williams 6'5" 225 ??????

If Williams is in Florida, like you say, he could have gone to FSU, U of Fla, or Miami Pro days. Plenty of guys who live in Florida and go to out of state schools did this. In Miami, they had plenty of non Cane guys there. Miami is generous enough to let guys, from other colleges, work out at Miami's facilities if they live locally. Unbelievable facilities.

P.S. Winslow was on a team with 2 lousy QBs, crippled running game, and raw receivers. Who do you think got the major coverage. Williams was in the loaded Norm Chow offense.

i'm not downgrading winslow, in fact i'm a fan, but he's the ultimate tweener.

as for my location, yeah, i live in newport beach. 45 minutes to an hour south of l.a. i also have no affiliation to usc, and, in fact, tend to dislike that particular school of "higher" education. and i've probably seen an equal number of miami and socal games this season.

I was just fooling around using your logic. Winslow is a good tweener. Too big for safeties and corners to cover, too fast for LBs. And 3 full years of college ball.
