On Saturday afternoon, USC women's basketball dominated UNC Greensboro to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Later in the day, the Trojans found out that their opponent for the Round of 32 will be Mississippi State.

The No. 9 seed Bulldogs earned the right to face the top-seeded Trojans by winning their first round game against No. 8 seed Cal, 59-46. Mississippi State controlled the game throughout, taking the lead for good less than three minutes in. MSU led by seven at halftime, by 14 after three, as Cal's offense never could get going. Cal hit just 3 of 21 3-pointers and shot 25 percent from the field (13 of 52) with 24 turnovers. It's hard to imagine Cal or any team playing worse than it did on Saturday, but Mississippi State's defensive energy had a lot to do with that.

Now, the Bulldogs will move on to face USC in the Round of 32. The game will be played at Galen Center on Monday night, with tip off at 7 p.m. Pacific time, 10 p.m. Eastern time, on ESPN.

The winner of the game will advance to the Sweet 16 in Spokane next weekend. The Trojans are looking to make it to the second weekend of the tournament for the second consecutive season. Mississippi State, meanwhile, is looking to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since it went to four straight from 2016 through 2019.
