And yet strangely, teams with tradition traditionally get new recruits, rebuild, and come back just as strong. Penn State, for example, had a few down years...then came back, challenged for a shot at the championship, and now are having a solid start to a season, and look to challenge for the Big 10 and possibly a shot at the title. Michigan is having a down year, a very bad year, but do you doubt they will be good again within two years?

What has Louisville done yet as a program to put them on level with Michigan, Florida, Penn State, and USC? Nothing yet. Nothing at all.

eh, Big Tean has almost always been overrated. Big 12 too. Big east. Pac-10 SEC are the power conferences now.

Yes, absolutely, the Big East outperformed the Big 10 in last year's bowl season. The Big 10 and the SEC still had the Championship game, and USC would have been in it if they had won their final conference game. Tell me, when was the last time that a team from this Big East (don't give me Va Tech--they're ACC now) was in a title game? Won the title?

VaTech, Miami...we can use those yet you want to talk tradition? How is that fair? The Big East as we know it now is 3 years old. Hard to talk tradition if you wont allow the Big East to go back more than 3 years...sheesh

Lol okay. Michigan is only the most winningest program EVER. Ohio State has been a powerhouse for decades. Wisconsin has become a powerhouse in recent years. Penn State has had like three losing seasons (or some such) in over 50 years. Yep, they must be overrated.

Of course, the Big 10 now, at this very moment, is certainly in a downswing. The Pac 10 is up, as is the SEC. The Big East? Power conference? Not quite yet.

I'm more than willing to let each and every team in the Big East right now to claim their entire program's history to add to the tradition that is the current big east. Whatever Louisville, USF, and those other teams have done in the past, before they joined, stays with that program. Those are the programs that the Big East has NOW.

In years past, the Big East has been a big flop when it comes to playing big non-conference games. This year it seems they may turn the trend. We shall see how the season pans out.

Don't really know much about the other programs, but remember USF's football program is only about 10 years old. I think this is only their 7th season in 1A. So if you are looking for history there, you won't find it. But I think it's pretty impressive how quickly they have risen up.

The Big Ten historically has avoided venturing outside their conference to play major programs, unless it was bowl games. Their record in those bowl games is mediocre. Granted the Big Ten was the 900 pound gorilla many years ago, but the last 10 has seen a 300 pound gorilla. 85 scholarship limit has leveled the field
and the "new" conferences are getting some of the players who would have walked on in the past. With TV exposure growing in leaps and bounds andnetworks searching for games to broadcast, High school kids would rather play for the smaller schools than sit on the bench without a scholarship at a big school program.

I'm impressed with them as well, and I hope they continue to grow.

I agree, Wally. The playing field has been levelled quite a bit, and other schools are getting better. I like that there's much more parity in college football than there was 10 years ago. As long as Penn State wins big every year, of course ;)

Go Big East!!! The vaunted Louisville Cardinals...oh, they, uh, lost. To an unranked team. Oh. I guess that Louisville offense really did need a defense to go with it. Go figure.

Syracuse is the worst team in the Big east. Robinson has done a bad job of trying to come in and completly change that offense. He doesnt have the personel to fit it...square peg round hole. He should be fired.

That Illinois win over Syracuse is looking a whole lot better :)

So is Louisville now the worst team in the Big East???

Man what a terrible loss for Louisville. Of course they arent the worst team int he big east, but they were deflated from their loss vs Kentucky and it showed.Man, their defense is horrible....

The great thing is that the nasty Cincinnati defense looks like it might propel them into UL spot int he top 3rd of that conference

Yikes - a loss to Syracuse? Is anyone teaching these boys how to tackle? Kragthorpe might not make it through his first season and rightly so.

Cincinnati looks pretty tough right now.

Did Petrino leave the cupboard bare?

That Cincinnatti team was put together by Mark Dantonio, who did such a good job there, that he got the job at Michigan State, who, right now, looks pretty damned good. But then those are John L. Smith's players at MSU, I think. Smith was the head coach at Louisville before Petrino.

So maybe Petrino won with Smith's players, and got the job with the Falcons. Mark Dantonio is now winning with Smith's players at MSU. Kragthorpe is starting to lose with Louisville. Maybe the secret is to follow John L. Smith around. :D

lol. John L Smith is a moron IMHO.

It sure looks, feels and smells like a coaching debacle at Louisville right now. Sure they lost Akoya and Gay from last season, but the defensive cupboard shouldn't be that bare. Have you seen these guys try to tackle? There is no technique - no angles - no wrapping up the ball carrier. Players are frequently out of position at the snap. One guy will bounce off the runner like a pinball while another veinly jumps at his feet. It's almost comical. It's the Keystone cops of defense units.

Ah those loveable Cardinals. Sounds familiar aye? :)

Kinda puts a damper on the UL @ WVu game I was looking forward too....oh well. For the Big East's sake, I hpe UL can turn it around and beat Rutgers and USF....(Not WVU) :)
