He better have a say. Need more consistency coming up through the ranks.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if our U17 coach was replaced as well. That was a previous sticking point with JK, he wanted to revamp our youth national team system and Gulati balked...it is convenient now that 2 of our 3 main youth teams have openings that haven't been filled and our U17 is coming off a disappointing showing. Maybe they can clean house at Bradenton too.

They need to find a system of play that works for the American player and stick to it through the youth ranks to the full Nat's. That won't pay off immediately but down the road we will see benefits.

I think this is exactly it, had USSF not been able to get what they considered an upgrade they would have stuck with Bradley. I am actually quite impressed they were able to keep negotiations quiet, not a peep from soccer journalists or blogs about a coaching search.

Should be an interesting couple of weeks before the Mexico friendly.

At least the new coach will have half a MLS season and a full season of Euro leagues to scout potential US players before qualifying starts.

What about the Olympics? I would assume that whomever they hire would field the olympic team as well?

I think that is the main thing I want to see from a potential replacement - someone who understands the domestic talent base, the type of athletes that we produce and put together a system to filter through those millions of kids who play youth soccer to find ones that we can develop

Then be on the same page from youth, to the U-# teams, have a relationship with MLS and also with the foreign powers who are opening academies in the US to improve their brands

The approach needs to be comprehensive .... basically get a coach in there who can tell gulati what is needed from him to make an organized developmental push

That for me is the long term goal and I think we have a shortage of domestic talent who can even guess how to structure a thought out development program

Tactics aside I have a lot of confidence in the idea of Klinsmann and I see us playing a style similar to the teams he played with as our eventual goal

Thats the U23 team, it rarely is ever the full national team coach for any country.

I understand that the players won't be the same. I meant the coach...

I expect to see a different look as to how they play, more flexibility and better tactics...as for results, it may take a little while.

This is what im wondering about. Bradley might have been conservative, but his success rate in tourneys was actually pretty impressive. With someone who's more attack-focused like Klinsmann, do you expect him to all but sweep through tournaments? As an outsider looking in, I think Bradley did as well as he could have with the talent he had...Even thought that Bradley's expectations were unfairly high, Klinsmann's are going to be ridiculously higher.

Which is where I would disagree. I think he wasted many chances to do better than he did. The WC being the main one.

Yeah, the coach for the olympics is rarely ever the regualr national team coach for most countries...the only ones I can think of is Dunga of Brazil in the last Olympics and in qualifying Mexico with Sanchez (and that didn't turn out so well as they didn't qualify).
