The point is that most first round picks being traded in today's NBA have protection. The other picks find their value in the player selected or in trade.

The bottomline point is the picks are less valuable nowadays because they are more protected.

Assets are like stocks. One year they could be worth a lot and the next year Nada. Need a GM that sells high and buys low. Suns assets are low right now.
