We can't argue about what you think you thought back then but we've established more than once that you didn't make those thoughts known in here during those debates. There were people in here - not me, I must admit - that were pointing out that Diaw had only looked worth much for one year so his value outside might not be as high as we thought. I was in the camp saying that he'd stepped up his game more and more as we progressed through the playoffs so I didn't think 5/50 was outrageous - though I did say he'd probably agree to 5/45 as things dragged on.
I did voice reservations, but I'll admit I did not push hard enough. Considering how I often I get attacked for uncontroversial ideas, I was pretty low key - apparently too low key. I was not wildly upset when they signed him, but I felt it unnecessary.
The nature of the debate was whether the Sarver should be slammed if they did not extend Boris. I did not focus so much on the amount of money, but whether the Suns would be justified IF they held the line.
1. Boris would be an RFA and I doubted he would get a JJ type offer the Suns couldn't match.
2. There were only four teams with much money available below the cap and more than that number of attractive unrestricted free agents.
3. Boris was a player whose skill set was too closely related to playing for the Suns. How many other teams needed a 6'8" 230 pound center who is known mostly for his passing?
Since I was defending Sarver in advance of him declining to extend, I was taken off guard when they extended at more than I thought wise.
