Do Cucumbers have any nutritional value? Been subbing them for my starches a lot lately.

Brussel sprouts are really good if you pour pepper juice over them. Cherry peppers, jalapeno peppers, any kind works.

So ... I should keep my love of cornbread and buttermilk to myself?

Seriously, just try it once.

Let me introduce myself..."Hi, I'm Linda. I don't eat anything that could be possibly construed in any manner, shape or form as spicy. If there should be a food invented (or currently exists) that even rhymes with spicy--I won't eat it."

Cornbread & buttermilk? I don't care for buttermilk, but there's nothing wrong with that fantastically bland combo! :)

Brussel Sprouts: half them, Blanche em in heavily salted water then shock in an ice bath to keep them nice and green. Render out some diced bacon in a skillet over med heat. Remove bacon, and hold. Place the sprouts cut side down in hot bacon fat, and cook em hard til well browned. Hit the pan with a touch of sherry vinegar, re add the bacon, adjust seasoning, serve. DELICIOUS.

Im about to make buttermilk ice cream. I heart buttermilk.

Right now, theres nothing like fresh peas. Fresh out the shell and blanched in salted water.

Fava beans are right around the corner, too.

Ive been diggin on braised collard greens as well, but its a bit hot for that these days.

If you are eating bland cornbread, you aren't eating real cornbread.

My wife and I are in a CSA here in New York. We paid something like 425 bucks up front and we get a sack full of fruits and vegies every other week for 27 weeks. It turns out to like 20 bucks every time we pick it up. We also get a bunch of flowers and a dozen farm fresh eggs. Aside from being the best friggin eggs Ive ever had ( Ill never buy grocery store eggs again if I dont have to), Ive been getting a slew of veggies I wouldnt normally buy and it has forced me to expand my repetoire. This week I got a bunch of mustard greens, swiss chard, kohlrabi, sugar snap peas (delicious!), boston Lettuce, mesculin greens, strawberries, and scapes 9Scapes are the curly flowering top to garlic bulbs and are mellow and yummy when blanched in water then pan fried). This is my first CSA Ive joined and so far I highly recommend it in terms of getting awesome veggies.
