Ali Farokhmanesh is adding a very experienced assistant to help him navigate the waters as a first-time head coach.

Veteran Dave Pilipovich will join the Colorado State men’s basketball staff. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports first reported the news, which the Coloradoan has confirmed. An official CSU announcement is expected to come soon.

The 61-year-old Pilipovich spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at New Mexico under Richard Pitino. Pitino has been hired at Xavier, but rather than follow there, Pilipovich is linking up with the Rams.

He’s been a coach for nearly 40 years, including a nine-year (2011-20) stint as the head coach at Air Force.

Pilipovich has also coached at Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Robert Morris, Florida Atlantic and in the San Antonio Spurs organization.

The addition of Pilipovich is the first new hire to the Farokhmanesh staff, but CSU has announced assistants Tim Shelton and Ken DeWeese have been retained.

DeWeese just completed his first season at CSU after spending the previous four at Wyoming. DeWeese was at Northern Colorado prior to Wyoming.

Shelton just finished his second season as a Ram after previously coaching at Oregon State, Fresno State and San Diego State.

Assistant coach Brian Cooley and director of player development Joe DeCiman went with Niko Medved to Minnesota.
