To the extent that Cardinals fans hope the coaching staff will resolve the quarterback controversy between Kevin Kolb and John Skelton by choosing none of the above, Cardinals fans may be in luck.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Cardinals are still open to the possibility of adding a veteran quarterback.

Plenty of quarterbacks will indeed be available as the rosters cut from 90 to 53 players. Other teams may be inclined to try to trade a quarterback in lieu of letting him walk away for nothing.

In this regard, keep a close eye on Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Clearly on the trade market but not getting a single snap in the preseason, Jackson probably will be cut if he’s not traded (barring injury to Matt Flynn or Russell Wilson on Friday night). But if Jackson is cut the Cardinals could be interested.

In 2008, the Jackson torched the Cardinals on their home turf in a season that culminated in a Super Bowl appearance, completing 11 of 17 throws for four touchdowns. Coach Ken Whisenhunt may want to compare the tape of that game to the tape generated by Kolb and Skelton recently.

Of course, that’s all the more reason for the Seahawks to trade T-Jack to another team and not cut him. Even if all they can get is a conditional seventh-round pick in 2025, they should do it if it means keeping Jackson from carrying his knowledge of the Seahawks’ playbook and personnel to Arizona."

If we can get Jackson with no trade I would sign him. He might end up to be our saving grace. Did he not have a very big game last year against us?

Sometimes even a blind pig will find an acorn. We are not unlike a blind pig with QB's right now. Not much to lose in signing Jackson or whoever who has won in the NFL. Looking at some of the bozos we have brought in before and some we have drafted why not? There were a lot of post on here when we signed Warner we were wasting our time that he was to old and done for.

I honestly don't think at this point a veteran QB not named Warner comes in here with any kid of success this season. As bad as our two QBs look, they theoretically know the offense already. Can you imagine someone learning on the job, when the job entails standing behind this O-line?!

Jackson does have Kevlar armor. Did you see the Seahawks o-line first 6 games of last season. Not only that but the man played with a torn pec.. Not sure how you get tougher. he would at least be a much better place holder than what u have now.

Hope they are more focused on some offensive lineman. The only QB I'd be happy with getting would be Matt Moore, but have a feeling he's not going anywhere. And long term, he wouldn't be our starter.

Would rather they just go into the season with what we have and improve through the draft if we fail.

I think we're a 5-11 team at best. If we trade for another QB, maybe that gets us a couple more wins this year. 7-9, big whoop. We still miss the playoffs, but now we're down a draft pick and we've moved down the in the draft order.

No one that we bring in to take a crash course in this offense is going to lead us to the Promised Land, so we should just roll with what we got and hope they figure it out.

Kolb to GB as Rodgers backup. The Pack currently have Graham Harrell and are desperate for legit backup QB and it puts Kolb back in a familiar system.

McCoy to the Cards as Skelton's backup and possible guy to eventually push him for the job.

GB would send a late round pick to Cleve.

The trades makes sense but I can't see it happening because I rarely remember seeing 3 way trades in the NFL. Second, I don't the cap ramifications of what that trade would do to the Cards or Pack.

I would be fine with those deals from a Cards standpoint. I doubt there's anything to it, but it's something to keep an eye on.

I'm watching the Browns/Eggos game right now...Colt Mcoy looks like he hates the Browns. No side line talk, no high fives, no nada. I think the talent is there but he is in a weird position right now. I don't know if it's him or the Browns but somebody is trippin.

"When he signed his six-year, $65 million contract in 2008 -- midway through his first year as a starter -- he was the fourth-highest paid passer in the league. To some, it seemed like a reach because of lack of experience".

It worked out for Rodgers and he will get a contract bigger than Brees.

Also, Kolb signed for less total money than what first year starter Rodgers did in 2008 and was very similar TO MARKET VALUE set by Cassel the previous year. Here's info on Kolb's deal from an article on SBNation:

"The details: It's a five-year extension worth $63 million and $20 million guaranteed. That's about the going rate for a quarterback like Kolb as QB Matt Cassel received a reported six-year, $63 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs as a former backup two years ago".

Here's another take from Revenge of the Birds:

"We all knew going in that the contract was a risk. In fact, it is very similar to Matt Cassell and Rodgers, who had yet to prove themselves as bona fide starters".


No doubt that Kolb hasn't played to his contract, which happens with many players, but to say it was a bad contract at the time is just not true. There is risk involved with every contract. The Pack got a steal, The Cards, not so much yet.

I said its comical that he is paid more than Rogers... and it is. The contract itself wouldnt have been so bad if they had used the built in "out" they had this offseason and not given him his bonus. They could have gotten away, relatively, cheap on the cap hit.

And it still negates any idea of trading him, which was the point of my post. No one would take that contract. It might have, arguably, been market value last year, but today its among the worst in the league.

Who's cap would take the hit for the signing bonus if he is traded? His base is only $1 mil. GB can renegotiate his contract or outright cut him after the year.
