Video Card help!!!

Ok tech people, riddle me this....

I bought and installed a new, awesome, OP video card for my system for gaming. Its in, it works great, graphics are awesome, there is just one BIG problem.

This is what is happening...

I'll be playing a game, truckin along, everything is fine and then sometimes (not always mind you) the cooling fan on the Video Card kicks on and KILLS my whole system. The computer technically stays on but the screen goes black, the sound stops, everything freezes and I have to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button. I can turn the computer right back on and resume playing with no problems and this only happens randomly.

Sometimes I'll play for a couple hours with no problems, sometimes I'll play for 10 minutes and it will happen once and then it's fine, and sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times in a night.

Like I said, sometimes the fans kick on and nothing happens, but it definitely ONLY happens when the fan kicks on and it ONLY happens when I'm playing games that put high drain on the card.... WHY OH WHY IS THIS HAPPENING???

Off the top of my head, it could be two issues:

1. Incompatible/out-of-date drivers.
2. Not enough juice from the power supply.
3. Bad card from the factory.

What are the particulars? What version drivers are you using? What kind of video card? How many watts is your power supply?

I would echo #2 above. What is you PSU? If you are trying to run a modern card on a 250W PSU, for instance, that would be my first bet as the culprit..
