Even today, if one has access to the NES or a Nintendo emulator, people can get hooked on this game (and all its secrets). I remember playing it a lot when I was a kid, and then once I got the emulator for my Dreamcast, I started playing it again, and it was extremely addictive and a lot of fun. Amazing how great this game is compared to the majority of the high-tech games of today.

I personally think that this is the most overrated Mario game of all time. Yes, there were some pretty cool elements in the game, but it is not one of the best games of all time, like a lot of people claim.

Don't get me wrong, I probably beat this game 20 times through, I just had to state that I think that this game is a tad overrated.

Did you think it was overrated before or after you put 500 hours into it?

It do not think that I put 500 hours into it, probably less than 100. Using two whistles at the beginning gets you to the final levels of the game.

In order to be one of the best games of all time, it needs to be innovative or groundbreaking, and I do not feel that it completely meets both of these catagories.

On a side note, the new Mario Bros for the DS should be out in May that is another 2d side scroller, 2 player co op game.

From what I read, it's close to being a DS port of the original Super Mario Bros. game, with obvious enhancements.

This thread made me start up a game again...one thing I immediately noticed that I had forgotten was there was no save on this one. Zelda had the save, but not M3.

Playing it through from start to finish...still remember the trick in level two to get 99 lives, and am now on world 3. Good times..this game brings back the fun.

My 5 year old daughter sits with me and watches me play, reading the screens ...I can't wait to watch her play it herself and enjoy it as I did.
