The Vikings have made it clear they like reclamation projects at the quarterback position and have starting experience. Last year, Sam Darnold fit the bill for them, and the results were great. In 2025, though, the team is full steam ahead with J.J. McCarthy, but they need insurance for him.
One writer at Bleacher Report has a bold suggestion for the team as they look for an answer.
Moe Moton wrote about seven trades that could surprise fans and teams when they are completed. One of those trades involved the Vikings acquiring Will Levis from the Tennessee Titans as they look toward the future.
He writes, "They may prefer an experienced quarterback who can push J.J. McCarthy for the starting job rather than someone who expects to start over him. If so, a young signal-caller who's played in a notable number of regular-season games would be an ideal addition." Moton adds that a report from NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Titans "would like to transition" from Will Levis.
Moton makes the last point that makes finding a reliable backup so critical to the team's sustained success.
"If McCarthy has a setback in his recovery from two meniscus tears or a rough offseason, Levis can provide veteran insurance until the Vikings get their quarterback of the future ready to lead the huddle."
